I have been getting a lot of PM's and emails from members lately about our sports section here at SatelliteGuys and many members are saying that changes are needed. The only issue is they are not giving suggestions on how to make it better.

There also seems to be a lot of in fighting between members which is unnecessary and something we would like to see end. Everyone has their favorite teams and players and should be respectful to their personal likes. While their is always light hearted banter between opposing views on teams and players some of the banter lately has gone beyond friednly light hearted banter. From my standpoint this as got to stop now.

Now believe me I am not trying to drive anyone away from SatelliteGuys, but I want everyones visits to be enjoyable on each and every visit.

I don't know what I should do should I be taking a heavy hand and scolding the people who are participating here beyond the spirt of what the forum was setup for? Do we need more moderation of this forum? Do we need to get rid of this forum? I am not sure what we should do, I got to be honest, I don't really follow sports or this forum and that is why I am looking for your feedback. Obviously due to the amount of email and PM's I have received over the past few weeks there is something broken with this forum that has members upset. And I don't like upset members. :)

So please leave feedback here or PM me, but one thing I ask is if you post your suggestion here in public not to name any names. I want to make this forum better for ALL OF YOU.

Your feedback is valuable so I thank you for your time and comments as we work to make things better. :)

Passions run high when people discuss their favorite teams. What goes beyond the bounds of conversation is when someone is called an "idiot" or worse for posting an opinion. Some people seem to believe that anonymous flaming on a forum is harmless banter, when the reality is that this is a form of cyber-bullying.

I have no issues with most of the posters and posts in the sports forum. I only wish that people would think for a second before they hit the "Enter" key for a post that has the potential to incite an adverse reaction.

I agree on the flaming front. We have rules about flaming here at SatelliteGuys and I think its time we start enforcing them here in the sports forum.

See any more flaming please report it by using the report post button and we will take care of it. :)

It's sports... to me sports is a game and sports is supposed to be fun. No need to make it personal folks especially against other members. :)

I think the Forum is just fine. There are two subjects that you will ALWAYS get heavy opinions and that is sports and politics. You will not get this in ANY other forum in this site because people take their sports and politics alot more serious than the debate on who is better, Dish or Directv. The are loyalties that go way back to grandparents and great grandparents that just would not be understood by most 'casual fans'. Is there heavy arguing and bickering?

Think of it as the dinner table, there is a whole lot of arguing there as well....but what fun would it be without it?

Personally, I feel that IF you have beef with someone, place themn on ignore. Plain and simple. I personally do not believe in it because everyone DOES have a right to express their opinion. The 'usual cast of characters' know each other in in and know just how much or how far they can pull each other's last straw. I think a casual observer comes from the outside and sees a free-for-all, but to me...they are some good heated debates.

The ONLY thing I would suggest is consider the sources that are complaining to you. Maybe a little stronger moderating. I am by no means saying Ramy has not done well, I just do not think he is here as much....or at least it does not seem that way.

Those are my 2 cents.

I think its fine... a lot better than previous forums I've discussed sports in. Taking things out of context happens and not knowing the way a comment was meant is an issue. I've typed things and was laughing while I did it cause I felt it was funny and not meant bad however someone else took it the wrong way - it happens not everyone is the same. So far I've had a good time in them during college football season - after its over I'll migrate back to the WWE forums and then converse some into the Dish ESPNU no HD threads. Only thing I see as I see in other places is the enjoyment of pushing users buttons for the sake of doing it while ignoring posts that contain a lot of useful information and facts. I lost count how many times I've been called a idiot in these threads but I just write up a good response and go on I don't lose sleep over it or I'm not going to act like a child and start mass clicking report buttons - that's just not me I'm an adult and responsible for myself.

Ohh and as a suggestion - allow you to edit you're on posts after a set time, many times I've wanted to correct myself and couldn't.

I do consider the sources which are complaining to me, some of them very trustworty members and staff, thats why I am concerned.

Ramy has done a great job for years and I am not picking on him at all, he has been an amazing asset to me and the site, but I also understand he has more on his plate now being that he is now a married man. So if I need to assign other staff to help him out I will.

I also think Ramy has done a GREAT job here and has been more than fair to everyone!

As far as having another mod here to give Ramy some help, I have two candidates I'd like to nominate if I may: Rey and Cosmo Kramer. As far as I can see they are respected by everyone here, they're both fair and I'm pretty confident neither would take any crap from anyone! I'm certainly not speaking for either of them, but I just feel either or both, in concert with Ramy, would be an asset to this forum. :)

thanks bill. and i would be happy to help if thats what scott wants or needs. issues that i'm seeing here is that the rules need to be better enforced. there's too much bickering between members and usually its the same ones who bait others into these arguments that go in circles over and over adding nothing to the topic at hand. lets stop the flaming, the baiting and all the little childish games. i for one will not tolerate it any longer and will lash out at who ever does this to me from here on out until its under control. nothing wrong with two members joking around with each other and about each others teams. as long as its respectful. but if you cross that line don't act like you did nothing wrong when someone lashes back at you. this applies to me and everyone else.NO ONE should be above any of the rules of this site, period. if you can't follow the rules then its time to go elsewhere..........

Some interesting choices there Bill. :)

Also I want to make it clear I am not picking on Ramy at all. He is going through something called life and I am happy he has one. :D

exactly. ramy's time is limited as is the case with most of us. i guess a little help is appropriate.

I think there have been a number of very controversial issues (i.e. college sports, NBA Lockouts) that have made the forum a little more fiesty than normal but nothing really to whine and complain about.

I think the Sports forum does need a little more moderation and adding another member to help Ramy sounds like a great idea. Cosmo and Rey would be great choices. :up

Thanks for the kind words Bill. I respect your input here as well and feel you would also be an excellent candidate also.

I can only speak for Rey because I know him personally and alot more than I do Cosmo...and he would be a great choice...IF he wants to of course.

Well, whan I meant "consider the source" ..it was meant more toward consider how much those complaining actually come in here. I would not doubt that they are trust worthy, but have they been in here enough to tell between folks really going at each other or innocent little banter between to sets of fans that hate each others teams?

I mean if you just come in once or twice a week in here, you really are not gonna get the full feel of the usual poster here. Many times there have some poster that have tons of posts on this site, but may have only posted a few times. They will not know the difference an may take things out of context.

Just saying...

I agree with much of what has been said here. Sports by nature are played by competitive people...and when they get older those same people watch and comment on sports, and they're just as competitive. This forum is no different than other sports forums I've seen and heard about. People just have strong opinions.

I also want to thank Ramy and Scott and anyone else I'm missing for all the time they spend that allows us a forum to talk sports. Unfortunately it obviously became too much for Dan Collins, and I thank you guys for doing what you do to keep this forum going.

As far as suggestions, I do think it would be much better if there were no name-calling, and if all posts spoke to the subject at hand and not to the person making the post.

Thanks again for all you guys do to give us knuckleheads a place to hang out together!

Those are two of the people I was thinking of as well, and I may add you to the list.

I also agree that Bill should be added to the list of moderators.

I appreciate that, but I'm just not in here consistently enough. Besides, I REALLY believe that Rey and Cosmo are the best candidates if they want it, and more importantly, if Scott decides to go that route. :)
