I remember when the space shuttle first launched and it had all of these fancy new advanced computers. It wasn't long before astronauts were packing laptops to use on the shuttle, because the laptps were faster than the computer systems integrated into the shuttle, but it was too expensive to rip those out and replace them every 12 months.

I thought the issue with replacing the built in computers was flight certification. It's not an easy process to get anything approved for military systems, flight systems more so.

1: xfinity will cap their data plans and make even more money off their internet as it becomes stressed pushing all this content.
2: The streamers will eventually be the big dogs and they will up their prices to, You tube tv already increased and at almost 60 dollars and a terrible interface i personally couldn't stand it

It's Google, what else do you expect? Google sucks and in a perfect world their products and services should be used by no one. Google is evil and nothing but a data mining company, having them as your ISP is about the worst thing you can do.
They were never serious about being an ISP, it was a game and science experiment to them. They were never going to expand significantly, they would wire up select areas of select neighborhoods in select cities and call it a day. The only reason they are in Provo is because they bought out an existing fiber provider, they never showed any interest in cold weather markets.

I don’t care if there’s a charge or not, I don’t want the router! There’s not much of a compelling reason to own you own modem with any service, and I’m a proponent of using your ISPs modem versus buying your own. That is unless you have a gigabit connection with a cable company and you want a modem with LAG so you can squeeze that extra 250 Mbps out of your connection and max out at 1200 Mbps.
Really, I could set it up anyway I want? So their router has a second WAN port for another ISPs modem can connect to for failover? Or can I get two of these and load balance? How many VLANs does it support? If I were to set up a site to site VPN tunnel between home and work, how easy it is it to configure access rules so only the MAC address of my laptop and certain servers can access my NAS at home over the VPN? Where can I get a copy of the VPN client software so I can access my home network anywhere in the world? Don’t bother with the last two points about VPN, since wireless carriers use carrier grade NAT those would be impossible to achieve over a service like Verizon’s ‘5G’
Not many ISP provided routers have the advanced features that I along with other enthusiasts are looking for. Plus, they’re wireless routers, yuck! No thanks! I want a wired router. Giving up the features and freedom I enjoy with my own hardware will never be acceptable.

T-Mobile doesn’t have 600 MHz LTE here, so I can’t compare, but from what I understand it can average about 30 Mbps, so if the same frequency can hit 70 Mbps on NR, that is awesome. I’ve hit over 300 Mbps on LTE band 4 on T-Mobile. If I could get 70 Mbps on 600 MHz where I live I would call that a win and use them as my secondary ISP, instead of HughesNet.
I mentioned Android. Fire really isn't used by many smart TVs. I thought it was pretty much a dying platform.

I forgot that my 3 year old Samsung could run apps when I got my Apple TVs about 2 years ago. When I bought the TV, I had DirecTV, so didn't use apps. I got the Apple TVs when I switched to DirecTV Now. At the time, DirecTV Now was beta testing their new app, and it wasn't available on Samsung.
Nowadays, the You Tube TV app is pretty much the same on the Apple TV and Samsung. Same with Netflix, ESPN, and Disney+. I use the Apple TV because I bought it, and more importantly, the wife is familiar with it.
I plan to keep and use the Apple TV, but if it dies, it won't be replaced.

Man, have you been under a rock? There are now ‘smart TVs’ with the FireOS, which ever Chinese outfit has licensed the ‘Toshiba’ brand name is making them now, along with Best Buy’s in-house ‘Insignia’ brand. I would expect more will follow. FireTV is Android based however.
Neither of these are keen on Fire TVs.

That is why all the copper POTS lines in this country need to be replaced with Fiber. Yes that's a massive undertaking but it needs to be done for the long term future. Wireless is only a temporary transitional solution.
We had DTV in 1994, then ATT U-Verse in 2006, then back to DTV Jan 2020. I will be riding out DTV for the 2 years, and if at a good rate, and still in service, I will evaluate at that time. That sound like a plan.
My wife records all her programs on all FOUR networks, EVERY DAY. Some evenings, she can be recording 4 programs, almost at the same or overlapping times. You can't record having NETFLIX, HULU, PRIME, etc.......etc.
ATT was happy to switch me from U-VERSE to DTV in January. In 2 days, I had DTV service and U-Verse equipment was returned the 3rd day. The e-mailed contract, pricing,..etc..... was as discussed over the phone.
There are advantages if you have a solid credit rating......LONG story short! And don't ever MISS a payment, or be LATE......long story short. Be early in your payments!
If you like the streaming services, etc., w/o any recording capabilities, that is for you.

However, when you Stream, theres No Need to Record it, as its just There.
As long as you can determine which service the show you want is on.

I am much the same and not for hunting around and can record a series with regular cable. Recording is what we are all about in an organized fashion, for us.

Apple is increasing its storage on the Apple TV. I love my Apple TV.

One thing happening on streaming devices is development of a central aggregator app. On Apple, it’s the Apple TV app. Most of the streaming service apps provide access to their content to the Apple TV app, and you can go there and open what you want in the streaming service app, like click a link in a web page.
Maybe that’s the best description... the Apple TV app searches for and links content from the streaming service apps.
For me, the too much switching around involved switching from STB to streaming device. When we went to DirecTV Now on the Apple TV, that eliminated that obstacle. We’re now using YouTube TV. It’s taken a while to get used to leaving the cable replacement app and go into other services, but we’ve gotten used to it. If nothing is on live TV, we’ll head out to a streaming service and watch shows commercial free.

i hope that DTV will launch another satellite and keep serving the customers it does have. as there's people out in the boonies with crap internets or none at all... then there's people that live in metro areas that have sh*t fiber providers and competition is awsome. and for the sports nuts i don't know of anyone other than DTV that has all of the sporting packages like DTV!!! or who knows maybe some new players will come out and offer sat service or maybe players like orby will step there game up...
I really don't see them launching any more Sats at this time, they just launched one not long ago.
