What pro football coaches would you put on your Mt. Rushmore of coaches?

My list :
Lombardi, Walsh, Landry, Paul Brown and Chuck Noll

IF I have to remove one, honestly it would probably be Noll, but then after I thought about it, hell, why should Noll be eliminated, he won 4 SB's ...
This man never gets the credit he deserves.

I cannot remove Walsh as he changed the game, offensively with his West Coast Offense.

(Unfortunatly the Lions are to the east and run the Wet Toast offense)

I am removing Tom Landry, only because you guys don't want to expand the heads, after all this time I think it should be remodeled ....

That is why I think this is so interesting. You could make a valid point for all 5 of them. The only reason that I did not choose Landry is I think of Mt Rushmore as people that changed this country for the better. I can not think of what Landry did to change the face of football. (let the boos begin)

Well then, What did Noll do to change football other than win 4 times ?
If that is your requisite then we have to change our opinions.

I think Gillman was gone before I got into football so I do not have any "My time " experience to look at with him.

"... Walsh credited Hall of Fame coach Sid Gillman with inventing the modern aerial attack - the timing routes, the pre-snap motion and especially the downfield passes.

What Walsh did was adjust Gillman's model to suit his personnel in Cincinnati. ..."

Sid Gillman never crossed my mind, but after doing some quick looking I think you made a good choice. Besides what you stated above here are a couple other arguments for him.

1) First coach to study game footage.
2) Brought the idea of the AFL and NFL playing a single final game. Later the idea was developed into the Super Bowl.

1) Noll did a lot for giving African-Americans opertunities within the NFL. Joe Gilliam became the league's first African American starting quarterback under Noll
2) Noll was a master at the NFL draft. In 1974 Noll selected 4 hall of famers with his first four picks in the draft (Swann, Lambert, Webster, and Stallworth). As well as all the other hall of fame first round picks (Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris)
3) Only coach to win four Super Bowls.

Is that game changing maybe, maybe not but he was one hell of a coach.

In no particular order:

Vince Lombardi 105-35-6 / .740 / Titles 7-1 (weak era? here come the flames)
Don Shula 347-173-6 / .665 / Titles 2-6 (vs tougher era, massive games won, plus perfect season, weak titles won, but 8 played)
George Halas 324-152-32 / .669 / Titles 6-3
Earl "Curly" Lambeau 230-135-22 / .623 / Titles 6-1

Just out of the cut:
Bill Walsh 102-63-1 / .618 / Titles 3-0
Chuck Noll 209-156-1 / .572 / Titles 4-0 (great titles / weak %?)
Paul Brown 170-108-6 / .609 / Titles 7-3 (weak era?)
Joe Gibbs 162-93-0 / .635 / Titles 3-1
Hank Stram 136-100-10 / .573 / Titles 4-2 (weak %?)
Guy Chamberlin 58-16-7 / .759 / Titles 4-0 (not enough overall games for me)
Tom Landry 270-178-6 / .601 / Titles 2-5 (vs tougher era) hard compare vs Brown, Lobardi or Noll - tough choice
John Madden 112-39-7 / .731 / Titles 1-1 (needed a better title record for me to make it and I am a Raiders fan) so no homer here.

I am not disputing this at all.
Just not finding any of them Game Changing ....

209 wins, 4 superbowls in a period of 6 years, the defense the Colts run, it was the Steelers defense(cover 2), Noll had Dungy become the first African American to be named defensive coordinator of an NFL team. 1989 NFL coach of the year, Hall of fame induction in 1993 and still the only coach to win back to back Superbowls twice.

Posting the two men add odds side-by-side..

Chuck Noll 209-156-1 / .572 / Titles 4-0

Paul Brown 170-108-6 / .609 / Titles 7-3

... after some further reading I am removing Landry from my top 4
