What is your satellite signal strength?

My Hopper 3 was installed only a week ago and, having switched from DIRECTV, I am impressed.

Over the weekend I discovered a screen that reports my incoming satellite signal strength at 52. AT DTV my strengths ran between 90 and 95. Is it valid to compare the strength numbers between Dish and DTV or are other factors at work?

I have experienced a very few instances of pixilization that I very seldom saw with DTV. Should I be concerned? How does 52 compare with your signal numbers?

The signal strength numbers are totally different for Dish. It is not really a signal strength indication, it is more of a signal quality indication. You can think of it as if Dish has expanded the signal readings to give you more range for the part of the signal that you are interested in. For example, my receiver does not cut out until the readings are about 10 on the meter. so the rest of the range is expanded to show signal quality above that. I think your reading of 52 sounds OK (it would be normal for me at my location), but I am not certain. Perhaps one of the installers in your area can chime in on that.

Signal strength is different for each transponder on each satellite. Check the signal strength by changing the transponder and sat number. 52 is acceptable, but sounds a little low for Nashville, TN

Mine is showing 61 on Satellite 72 on transponder 13 in Oak Creek, WI.

Tony S your explanation was spot on according to the tech who confirmed my installation. He reran the diagnostics and got passing grades all the way through. My numbers resemble yours Starwalker.

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer my questions.

But, the tech had no explanation why particular programs recording one after the other are not available for viewing until the entire block has recorded and about one out of five have errors opening the file.
