What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

I was shocked at the way the Tigers came out of the gate. The offseason move I thought was underrated was the Jacque Jones signing. I thought he would be huge at the bottom of the order................and then he gets released a month into the season.

And now he's been released by the Marlins as well.

We have some major talent and over $135 million on the disabled list in V. Mart, Hafner, Carmona, Westbrook and Barfield. However, someone forgot to tell the youth! We now have a lineup consisting of Minor League ballers! This is great.

The Tribe delivered a 12-2 thrashing and another great outing by the Kid (Laffey) last night! Thanks Detroit for beating the first place Sox. The Tribe is now 6.5 games out! If we were healthy, I'd say there is still a glimmer of hope in this season. Unfortunately, I am still uneasy....

Detroit's young kids have been playing well when called on.
Playing the young kids is a good thing as long as they are not keeping them from winning. This is very good experience for them.

I was shocked when they went out and got him, I figured that they had enough people to play LF between Thymes and Rayburn (played great when called apon last year for them.)

Another Sox loss and another Tribe/Tigers win! The Tribe is now 5.5 games back! We're off today, but have Colorado Rockies, LA Dodgers, SF Giants and Cinci Reds coming up on the schedule! This interleague play is exactly what a slumping AL team called for! :D

I think the Reds swept the Indians didn't they, so I wouldn't be so happy about playing them. :D

BTW,

Grady Sizemore (our leadoff guy) is now 2nd in the AL with most home runs (16).

C.C. Sabathia is now 1st in the AL with most strike outs (97).

Go Tribe!

*THIS JUST IN!...........

The Cleveland Indians have the hottest offense in baseball! No, really, I'm not kidding! Through the month of June, the Tribe has scored 95 runs, more than any other team in the MLB! The amazing part is that all of this was done while our 2 best offensive players from years past are on the DL in Martinez and Hafner! As a matter of fact, from last year's starters, only 4 of our regular offensive players are currently stating (Garko, Sizemore, Peralta and Blake), the rest are rookies, ex-bench players or minor leaguers that got called up this year! Amazing I tell you!

Tonight, we start a 3 game series in Denver, Colorado. Let's hope that thin air at Coors Field helps keep these bats alive!

Go Tribe!

Hey Matt, C.C. Sabathia is rumored to be on the market. What have you heard?

Yeah, it's all over the local sports talk and newspapers. GM Mark Shapiro still won't reveal what his intentions are though. The one thing that does seem apparent though, is that we won't be making another offer to Sabathia. We made him an offer at the begining of the season and he turned it down. He wants a deal for a longer term than what our ownership was willing to commit to. (Typical cheap Cleveland ownership)

This is a very difficult situation as Sabathia will be a free agent at the end of the year. Do we trade him now for "anything" we can get in return before he walks for nothing? What would a team offer for a player they would basically be "renting" for a few months until he becomes a free agent after the year? If we trade him, it would hurt our playoff ambitions this year. If we hold onto him till the end and he goes to another team, we'll be compensated 2 draft picks.

With that said, I'm glad I'm not the GM for the Indians right now. This is a very difficult decision, especially since we're only 5.5 games back in the AL Central. The trading deadline (without waivers) will be at the end of July. I expect the Indians to wait as late as possible to see which direction this team will go this year until deciding what to do with Sabathia.

Or - I think most would agree - typical greedy pro athlete.

I'm all for individuals making as much as they can possibly sucker, umm, earn from their employer.
I just wished they'd be honest about it.

Don't tell us how much you love playing for an organization and then turn down $18 million a year for 4 years from them, because you'll get $20 million a year for 5 years from an organization you've never played for.

These are just the numbers I heard that Sabathia turned down. I don't know if it's true.

Personally, I'll take a "typical cheap Cleveland ownership" over paying $40 to sit in the "cheap seats" at Progressive Field and watch a team with a bunch of prima donnas who no longer have the desire to play hard every day because they've already hit the jackpot.

I hope you're right. Like you said, with the trading deadline being the end of July, the Indians are in a good position to see what to do.

They can wait and see where they are at, while the big spenders that want C.C. get more desperate.
If they are out of it by then, trade him away to the team that makes the most attractive offer.

If they are forced to trade him, hopefully it will be another "Bartolo Colon for Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips and Cliff Lee" type of deal. :)

I HOPE they hang onto him, for Cleveland's sake, IF he goes to the Yankees, look out, for years scouts have been talking about the lack of Yankees players in the minors, how they are not as good as you would expect, they Yankee's will pump up a player so that his value will look better than it really is.
They did the same think with the Randy Johnson trade, what did Arizona (or was it Houston at the time, I don't remember) get, did any of them pan out ?

Your not going to get a starting player off the roster, I say keep him, and make another offer to him closer to the trade deadline.
The only team I'm hearing at this point is the Yankees.

Yeah, Aaron Laffey goes for the Tribe tonight. Last night's 10-2 loss was embarrassing though.

An interesting note from yesterday's interleague matchups:

There were 14 interleague games played yesterday and the AL won 12 of those games! The only AL loses were by the Indians and Blue Jays.

Have you guys heard the rumor about the Indians and Red Sox in a trade again....

Manny for CC ....
I'm serious and shocked if they did this.

I was at work this morning and a buddy of mine was asking if I had heard about it and googled and found the articles stating this may happen, but I am unable to find them at this time...

Holy F*!!!!!!!!!!

I just got chills! I would seriously take that trade in a second! Manny's my favorite x-Indian of all time! Unfortunately, I am very sceptical about the likelihood of this. You see, the main reason why we're not going to keep C.C. ourselves, is that ownership isn't willing to commit the appropriate dollars to do so. And Manny makes a pretty decent dollar I hear. Why would we want to take on that colossal contract?

Maybe because you get more value for an everyday player and pitchers have a history of getting hurt ...

If I were Boston, I would have to think, WTF are they thinking.
Ortiz has been hurt this year, can you imaging the hole in the Sox lineup if Manny were gone for good ???

Yes, if I were the Indians, I would do it in a heartbeat.
