What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

I can't imagine Christmas and the winters without snow. With all that said, no offense, but I think I'd get sick of all that "sun".

I experienced that.

In 2006, my family and I went to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for Christmas.

I didn't enjoy it very much; I missed all but the last three college bowl games, including the Fiesta Bowl.

I MISSED the epic Oklahoma/Boise State game!

Where'd you live prior to L.A., Halo?

Born and raised in N.E. PA and later moved to Rochester, NY. Too many cold mid-Mays for me. Opening Day for the Buffalo Bisons in 1988 it snowed flakes the size of potato chips! I told mayself it was Sunny SoCal by year's end and I was here by mid-May!!!!

I DO miss the EARLY Fall back there...I'll say that much.

The Tigers pay in snow for the first several weeks of the season.
Also, just a few short years ago, the Indians had a series SNOWED out at the start of the season (that might have been last year).

Just heard an interesting stat on the Indians.....

We've entered the 9th inning while leading by 3 runs or fewer 24 times this year. Of those 24 games, we ended up losing 13 times!

Currently, we are exactly 13 games out of first place. If our bullpen is less inconsistent this year, we are right in the thick of things, if not in sole possession of 1st place in the AL Central. (Since some of those games were against teams in our division currently ahead of us.)

Last year, we had the AL Saves leader in Joe Borowski who had a much, much higher ratio of closing out those close games. Plus, we had setup guys in Rafael Betancourt and Rafael Perez who were pretty much unhittable. This year, the results couldn't be more different.

So, upon further examination, it would be easy to blame our terrible season solely on our bullpen. This, despite the key injuries to our starting pitchers and DL stints by key offensive players.

With that said, I beg GM Mark Shapiro to throw the $$ we were going to offer to Sabathia and give to a shut-down closer next year, ie. K. Rod!

I read an interesting article on K Rod today. The Angels may be losing him at just the right time. His velocity is conistently down this season despite the saves. It is the classic beginning of the end of the closer. Now, that said...he is young and still has lots left in his tank after this postseason. He will be valuable. But, he will need to monitored as far as use is concerned. Certainly not worth what his agent will be demanding.

If they lose him, they better have a backup closer.

Interesting. Thanks for the inside scoop Halo.

I honestly don't think our "cheap" owner would ever spend big money on a big time closer, so honestly, I don't even think K-Rod coming to the Tribe is a reality.

It would be a great move for Mr. Illich to bolster the Tigers sometimes great, sometimes very bad bullpen. Closer position especially.
I doubt that will happen with Zumaya and Dolsi in the mix for the next years but it would be nice to have someone more consistant than Roller CoasterJones.
I guess consistant isn't the right word.
I wonder how may heart attacks he's caused over his time in Detroit ?

Jimbo,

Frankie has been no walk-in-the-park closer. Granted, he gets the job done, but we now have a new stat in Anaheim just for him....NS for "Nervous Saves". Of his 41 saves this year, at least 30 of them qualify as an NS!!!!

You can still win and be a heart attack candidate.

Can you list all the closers that are considered 'heart-attack-closers?'

So he's a Roller Coaster Jones clone ...
I guess we'll have to keep looking, How old is Huston Street again ?
Tigers could use a lock down closer (as everyone), there is still talk of Zumaya going back to being a Starter

Again? The man has only blown two saves, one came from an error the team saddled him with. Besides, getting the heart racing once in a while is good for us old farts.

I remember a story from '84, Senor Smoke came in relieve in a tight game, and proceeded to walk the bases full. He called time out and walked over to the first baseman and said , "Isn't this exciting?" He proceeded to strike out the next two batters and get the save. Fun stuff.

I didn't say he wasn't getting the job done, just that he gives out free heart attcks on a regular basis.
I heard him talk about that once awhile back...
He said, If he has a 4 run lead and loads the bases and they score 3 runs, we still win.
