What is Orby TV?????

Well both Dish and DTV let people do self installs, even gave you a kit, it was good for us small dealers, when they gave up they called us most of the time they really were totally lost and were begging for help
I remember those days. I can even recall seeing the 'self install kits' branded as RCA at Wal-Mart, Sears, etc... back in the day. I can remember going to Wal-Mart about 21 or 22 years ago, helping my cousin get what she needed for a DSS (remember back in the day when there was DirecTV and USSB) installation, I put it in for her and her husband. Remember looking at one of those 'self install kits' I had all the stuff anyway, we didn't pick that up. I can't recall how much they were.

Can they spill the beans by showing at least 1 or 2 FTA channels by rotating different program stations every 30 days or so. For example CNN and Discovery for 30 days after 30 days switch over to FOX News and BBC America. Every once a month change the samples channels again.:)

What you think of it?:bounce

Would be a nice idea, but I don't think their contracts with the content providers would allow them to do that, not do it and advertise it at least. I would imagine that they are free to offer a 'free preview' of certain channels to their subscribers in what we used to call 'fixed key' back in the old VCII days, not sure if that's what DirecTV and Dish call it when they offer free previews. Anyway, I don't think they could broadcast and advertise anything they receive from another content provider ITC without their permission, at least do it and advertise it to FTA folk.

Who knows, but the dish they picked looks like trouble to me, it's too cheap looking down it will bite them in the butt when their systems die
Others have made that mistake too

(perhaps because they're using the NAFTA beam of a Mexican satellite slot that isn't exactly hot in the non-coastal regions of CONUS).

According to this map from Eutelsat, it is as 'hot' in most of the CONUS as the majority of the other FSS Ku birds.

Are the Orby TP's on 117 high powered like Dish and Direct? Or is 117 just a high power sat in general? Are they DVB-S or DVB-S2?
The 117W bird, Eutelsat 117A (formerly SatMex 8) is a FSS (fixed satellite service) satellite, I looked to try and find the power levels of the Ku transponders, but couldn't find any information. Generally they are not as powerful as the BSS (broadcast satellite service) birds that DirecTV and Dish use.

I don't think we buy anything from North Korea. Kaon's HQ is in South Korea.
I didn't think we did. I figured Kaon was out of South Korea, thought them (or some of the other FTA receiver manufacturers) might have had a plant in the north, or perhaps the DMZ or something such as that. Looks like they make them (the Koan boxes) all over the world, just like all electronics are now.

I find it amazing how they are able to shape the beam that selectively. It's almost like their signal cuts off exactly at the US/Canada border!
Not quite. Last summer I got 30 encyped and 1 fta channels, and I live about 40 miles from the border :).
I don't have a motor until spring so I can't check untill then.

Absolutely. Just a standard linear LNB is used should be no problem at all.

I was a Directv early adopter and remember going to Circuit City in Boise, ID and bought two systems and I believe they were in the neighborhood of about $1200.00 a piece if memory serves me.

Guys I've read all the 10 pages of this thread and I think (I mean I wish) the Receiver could just use a CAM card as in Europe, is a shame that they are using the All America (Canada to Argentina) decryption system instead of a CAM Card as in Europe.

Using a CAM Card reader would make it a way better and cheaper solution for all FTA fans out there, using any FTA receiver your budget can afford, I think that would make this Sat TV a way more interesting for lots of people that hate what Dish and DirecTV gives you.

There's no use lamenting about "I wishes" in this case. It is, what it is.

I can't see ANYWAY that using a standard CAM card versus the present SIM card would make a single $1.00 worth of difference. That's been covered in this thread. They MUST use receivers that are addressable with encryption, locked down, AND that are 100% within their control. That would be a condition of their obtaining programming to broadcast, otherwise they couldn't stay in business long.

Why can’t you use a narga cam with the orby sim?

Would be interested to have a second orby stb and try a activated sim in it and see what happens.

I'll bet you $1.00 that the sim marries itself to the specific receiver. Let's not go much deeper into discussions like that. We all know where they ultimately lead.
