Hi Guys.....new to this forum and the world of HD.
Planning on upgrading my DISH 500 system to HD real soon and want to do my own install. I live in Southern California (zip 92342) I have 2 runs of RG-6 to each of the new receiver locations. I have some experience finding satellites with my 500 system.

New Receivers to be purchased: (2) VIP722

New Dish/LNBs: Here's where I need help. What is my best bet for a nice clean single dish install, w/strongest signals ? What model dish? (1000? 1000.5?)

Plan on buying all components from an online dealer where I think I will get a better price than from DISH, who I have been a customer of for 8 years.

Any and all advice and experiences welcome.

Regards,
Joe

1000.2 Because it uses a Dish Pro Plus LNB that allows 3- 722 running a single wire each plus a 4th satellite input if you ever want international.
Dishstore is good, Or just look around online for your equipment.

How is that, Hemi? Do you run the three LNBs to a DP44 switch and then a single cable from each switch port to a separator to each receiver? That's awesomely simple if it works.

As I understand it, and I'm a novice, you'd have to run the three LNBs individually to the DP44, and then you'd have to run an RG6 pair from the switch to each receiver. 3 In wires, 4 Out wires (2 pairs), no separators. Too bad the DP44 doesn't have a UHF OTA input. :(

DP dual tuner receivers only require one cable when used with a separator (comes with receiver). The 1000.2, 1000.4, and DPP Twin all include a built-in DPP switch. The DPP Twin will handle two dual tuner receivers without any additional switches being used and the 1000.2 and 1000.4 will handle 3 DP dual tuners without an additional switch.

So do you cascade separators, one from the dish into a pair, into another pair each?
The 1000.2 should have three outputs so to connect three receivers, you need three coax runs, one each from lnb to separator to receiver for dual tuner receivers, and a coax to receiver for a single tuner receiver. Separators cannot be used to cascade to multiple receivers.

you run a single cable from your lnb to a receiver. when the cable gets to where your receiver is you hook up a separator (looks like a splitter but isnt). then run 2 cables from the separator to the 2 inputs on the back of the receiver. you dont need any type of switch because it is built into the lnb.

I'm sorry, I just thought that I'd read that you could only use one (designated) port on the LNB, or the LNB would disable the internal switch altogether, doing an impression of the old multi LNBs that had no internal switches. I have no idea where I got that impression.

So the OP would use a 1000.2, two runs of RG6 into the house, one of which (LNB Port #1) runs to a separator and DVR #1, the other (LNB Port #2) RG6 goes to a separator and DVR #2. That's almost too easy.

Is there a way to bring in my local Digital OTA signals in a system like this?
Feed external Digital OTA antenna into 722? or outside into LNB port 4? or best to just feed it to my HD TV directly?

to run your antenna over the same cable you would need to have a diplexers
on each end... so from lnb you would have a cable running into a diplexers, as well as your antenna cable. then from that a single cable runs to your dvr where you have another diplexers. the antenna port of the diplexers you plug into the ant port on the dvr.. the sat port goes to a separator and the 2 ports off the separator goes into their respective sat ports on the dvr.

Now, if you want the antenna going to both TVs you need to use a splitter from the cable comming off of the antenna, and run the split cables to both diplexers

Thanks for the reply H-04.

Just occurred to me that I will have an unused extra RG-6 going to each 722, as I will be using a single cable from the LNB and a separator at the dual tuner. So I could just hook the external OTA antenna to that, then to the 722.

Anyone care to recommend a good outdoor OTA Digital antenna?

How about a competititve online DISH dealer for my 1000.2 Dish and 722s

Thanx

Go to AntennaWeb or TV Fool - Home and put in your info. This would give you the size and type of antenna you would need as well as the direction to point it and what channels you should get.

Sorry to hijack, but if you can run 3 722s or 621s from a single 1000.2 or 1000.4, can you run four 722s from a single DP44? How would you connect the LNB(s) to the DP44?
