What can the ethernet do on a VIP622?

I am just wondering what can be done through the Ethernet port? Can it be used for backing up? I already have the USB enabled. Anything would be appreciated. Can I log into my dish when I travel?

You can use it to download video from dish network over the internet and to replace the phone line connection for reporting in to dish.

OK! Thanks! Do I need to do anything to activate the Ethernet port so the computer see's the 622 besides just go through the menu screen?
