On the 522, the 2nd tuner never passes through Dolby Digital audio, even if sitting at TV1 in single mode. This is also true if you play back a previously recorded event with DD audio, TV1 will still only output PCM from that event if tuner 2 was the last "foreground" tuner before the playback was started. I never really considered that to be a bug, but either (a) some kind of hardware limitation in tuner 2 or in routing the tuners to the outputs or (b) a design decision (which some may consider a bug).
If the behavior of the 942 can be changed with new software, that's good news and could mean the 522 hardware is capable of that as well with a software update. I wonder if the 625 has the same issue since it's essentially a 522...

Sean - it's a known bug (about halfway down my list of known bugs over at DBSTalk). The bug has to do with PIP and swapping between the tuners. DD5.1 works on MAIN, but doesn't work when you swap. I'm hoping that it'll get fixed soon, although it's not the most annoying bug being worked on at the moment.
If you can't get DD5.1 audio back by swapping back to the other tuner, you'll need to do a front panel reboot to get the DD5.1 back.

Mark thanks. I agree with you is very annoying and it's about the only thing that I see wrong with the 942 (although there are other bugs). Thanks for the advice and hoping it will be fixed soon.
The pip audio problem is the only thing I really see , that I can say is a real bug. I haven't noticed anything else that really passes for a bug right now.
I have had one for about a month now and at first I did see a few things that were not quite right , but now I am running just fine. I have only 4 hours left in hd and 33 hours left in sd, so I am a power user. I think people have to adjust to a new receiver and learn how it works , especially when it comes to namebased recording features. I have never had a Dish receiver that used nbr until the 522. This receiver is a Godsend compared to the 921 I had. I think that it is just getting better and better. I hope that the software updates won't screw it up like they did with the 921. Of course this is a different team then the 921 Eldon software writers so it might have a chance.
Charlie should sell off the Eldon company and never use them for anything else software related.

Mark, you probably don't have much contact with the 522 developers, but do you have any idea if the same issue (as I described above) is also just a software bug in that receiver? I was under the impression it is due to some limitation in the hardware, but if it's not, then a fix would be greatly appreciated... (actual likelihood of a fix notwithstanding)

Also, don't forget that some people may have set their receiver preferences or A/V receiver incorrectly. Make sure that you have either a digital coax or optical connection to your A/V receiver and that you have it configured properly. Ditto that your receivr is set for "Mixed" or "PCM/Dolby Digital".
I know this seems basic, but you'd be surprised how many times I've fixed this over at my friends and relatives' houses. They start playing around with settings and don't realize that they are settling for inferior sound....

I'm also loving having the V*/942 DVR combo...went to bed on the 30th with V*, woke up on the 1st and the installer left me with V* and a DVR! Really like the 942, recording quality on HD is spectacular, really seems lossless to me. My only gotcha so far has been the OTA tuner's sensitivity to multipath interference (I don't think it likes cable runs through diplexers), which, hopefully, will be resolved by a tech visit today.

Sean , i would go to audio preferences and make sure that is is set of DD 5.1 and PCM. Also swap your optical out cable , it may be loose, use the TIVO one and see if there is a difference. I had a cable with loose housing bad fit cable,, and it would do the same thing.
I love recording all the shows in DD 5.1. The 942 ability to buffer one hour of programming and start back when you pause live tv, and continue the program when you desire is incredible . I allows you to rewatch segments of say Smart Travels without recording it to dvr.
Porn lovers must love this feature.

I have one very serious bug with my 942. If i set a dvr timer and select once, it will keep recording the show that "once" i select, and the next day, and the day after. I didn't select daily or weekly it still does it. How do i avoid doing that. I recorded Bikini Destinations, and it recorded it 5 days in a row. It is really annoying Otherwise, it is perfect, picturewise, and has a great interface. This is the only bug i have.
