Was DISH Robbed at CES?

Cuz that is what they do here.....

Actually I would defend any company or person that was put in this position. Lets change the situation a bit.

Say Samsung came to CES with a new tablet that was in direct competition with the IPad. The Samsung tablet was like nothing ever seen at CES and blew the IPad away in every aspect. Everyone attending CES was drooling of the Samsung tablet and was the talk of the show. Samsung gets nominated for best of show but gets pulled just before the winner is announced, by Cnet as instructed by CBS because Apple has some kind of affiliation with CBS(fictional affiliation). Now everyone knows of continued litigation(IRL) between Apple and Samsung. Would you defend Samsung as getting screwed unjustly?

Now for reality, what Scott has posted here as to what transpired shows Cnet/CBS as petty. I too have lost respect for Cnet. Now it puts doubt in my mind of their reviews of "anything".

What a marvelous publicity opportuniy for Dish Network!

They should make a big deal about C-Net/CBS "last minute enlightenment" and use it to hype the new Hopper.

Ridicule is the best revenge - STICK IT TO CBS!

New commercial: "Which company has a DVR so good that the broadcaster banned it from their competition? What don't they want you to know? That you have control of what you watch..."

The "news media"? those are all weblogs that are covering CES, not mainstream. This will be nothing more than a blip in the news cycle.
People are searching "dish hopper CES cnet" and grabbing whatever comes up. You're right though, those are NOT mainstream news sites. I've never heard of deadline.com nor allthingsd.com either. Remember, sites like CNN do have "tech" sections. If it made it there, it would have a little more credibility. A little, mind you !

Typically the mainstream media will take several days or weeks to come across news and report it unless someone pushes their agenda with them.

Sure, CBS has the right to do what they want. It's an award that they give out.

Their only saving grace in all of this for CBS is that they didn't change their review, they just decided not to give Dish the award.

BTW - I wonder Why CBS felt compelled to announce that they were denying Dish the award for this reason? Why didn't they just give it to the Razer Edge and be done with it??

Man I noticed this article on CNET and then noticed something...

I am really going bald.

Yup that the back of my head in this picture. :)

LMAO.....when I sit in a friend of mine's office with a camera system and the monitor right in front of me, and one of the cameras right behind me, it appears that I too have a bald spot. it must just be the lighting though, as I have a great head of hair for a guy almost 50 years old....

Sorry for the loss of your hair...lol

Ok jokes about my hair aside (man I feel like Larry Sanders now...)

My feelings on this are that if CBS did not want DISH to win the award then it should have never have been selected as a finalist. DISH was strung along the entire way including being made to win CNET pins to promote CNET only to be slapped in the face just minutes before the award was to be given.

With CBS now showing that they are pulling the editorial strings at CNET, it makes me no longer trust CNET. Now the question in my mind is, "did CBS influence this article or review?" And I got to be honest I feel bad for the CNET guys who have worked hard to build themselves up to be this major player who had their house of cards knocked down in one afternoon by their parent company.

I have sent out a message to Brian Cooley of CNET seeking a comment and will post it if I receive anything.

Don't change the rules after the game has been played.

Tell that to Dish who inked a 15-year deal with Voom...only to later terminate the agreement while the game was being played. And tell that to the AP Poll whose voters refused to honor the rules and vote for Ohio State, the most deserving team, who finished with a perfect 12-0 record and were the only undefeated I-A team, simply because the NCAA deemed them ineligible to participate in the post-season. Dish terminated their agreement with Voom when it no longer suited their purpose (not fair); AP pollsters did not vote for the #1 team because of their misguided social justice (again, not fair); and CBS was not going to have give Dish's DVR an award when they are battling to have some of their DVR features disabled through a court action. Does this mean the Hopper is not the best DVR in the land. No, just like it doesn't mean the Buckeyes aren't #1 after being the only undefeated team in the nation. Life is not fair and Dish was not robbed.

Now dish knows how some of their customers feel when Charlie promises Full time HDRSN's (insert favorite programming here) and fails to deliver! All is fair for Dish unless you do on to them what they have done to you, then it's not fair. Dish has a tendency to cry when their own tactics are used against them. Charlie obviously has rubbed the wrong people. Anyhow all of this hubbub over an award. Folks its only an award! If the product is that good it will stand out on its own. No sense in crying over split milk anymore!.

Of course I would. Why wouldn't I defend Samsung in that scenario? It would be identical to what happened with the Hopper.

Yeah. That's it. It must be the camera.

Spilt milk is the wrong metaphor. What we have here is Leslie Moonves with egg on his face.

You've hit the nail on the head. CNET product reviews and awards - IOW, their journalistic integrity itself - are all now in question.

The absolute worst thing about pulling the award is that it makes Dish Network look like the good guys, and that should NEVER HAPPEN!
