Voom worth $199 ?

I was wanting the opinion of the current voomers.
I was told it would cost me $199 to have a 2nd dish installed in order to receive the voom programming. Is this worth the money for the install in anyones opinion?

last I knew it was $100 through dish themselves.
or if you are a DIY'r I got the parts (used D500, DP Lnb, mounting hardware and 150feet of coax) from a local satellite installer, plus got a post from the lowes all for less than $100. I already had a DPP44 switch, so that may drive your cost up if you require a switch.

What is your setup now? Superdish? D500?

Edit: I see you posted in another thread about your setup. I believe that since you currently have a superdish (with a DP34 switch probably) that the additional cost is the DPP44 switch you would need. Just for reference, I got a DPP44 on ebay for $58 (IIRC) shipped. Works great.

He has a Superdish. That is why it is $200.00 compared to $100.00 that DPP44 switch is expensive.

As far as worth, I really can't answer that question for you. All I can say is that if you want more HD TV that is the way to get it.

I see there were some posts while I edited my first post after I saw your other thread.

I got my DPP44 on ebay for around $58 shipped, complete package, no seperators, I got those from Dishstore.net

I'm still kind of a newbie, could you explain what the seperators are you purchased seperatly?

they are what allow the DPP44 to work with dual tuner receivers (522, 625, 721, 921, 942) with only 1 coax. Usually, you have to run 2 seperate lines from the switch to the receiver, with the seperator, you run 1 line to the area, then plug that 1 line into the seperator and from the seperator, 2 short runs (1 ft or so) to the tuners on the receiver.

If it's a single tuner receiver, you don't need a seperator.

Don't get them confused with splitters, they are not the same.

I have another question.
I currently receive sats 105, 110, and 119 on my superdish. Is there any chance that in the near future, the voom programming will be available on any of these sats., or will I need the second dish no matter what in order to get voom?
I've read where voom is available on 129 and I think I read where it might be available later at 121 (I may be wrong about that). But I guess even if that's true, I still need a second dish. Correct?

Nothing has been announced about 129 nor where Voom is going. As for 121 having Voom, I highly doubt that.

Right now, honestly, you aren't missing alot with Voom right now IMO, but if you do get a second dish, for 61.5, you can always swing it over to 129 later (if you have Line of Sight).

There are alot of possibilities with what dish is up to with Voom, locals, 129. Just remember the first line, nothing has been announced yet on the plans for 129.

I wouldnt expect voom to show up on 121, as for wether its worth it you should first start by reading up on the voom channels offered by seeing what theyr programming consists of, also if you can meet up with someone in your area who has voom through dish and show you the channels that would help also.

My opinion is no, Ive seen them and unless you like the 24/7 music hd channel or are into the outdoor sports hd channel there isnt much to what they have.

Good point, look into what is offered right now. I only like 2 of the channels (guytv and MonstersHD, love those horror/cheesy flicks), but to me that is worth the $5/month.

Well if I went with the second dish at 61.5, I will probably be subscribing to Sky Angel as well.
It's just that $199 is a lot of money when your not sure that you will even like the programming.

So it's safe to say that the people that currently have Voom. Although you may enjoy the programming, It would not be worth paying an up front fee of $199 to receive it?

I have Sky Angel, and I like it. The music video station "Spirit" especially. The two of them combined, VOOM + Sky Angel were a must for me. I was with VOOM before they went belly up. The VOOM stations do have repeats, but I also heard they are gathering some of the James Bond movies. They are trying to expand their line up.
I am glad I have them both!
