VOOM looks better this morning

I feel the same way. Dish needs to get out of the mindset that its HD customers are pinching pennies. Most of us paid $5K+ for just one tv. Most of their SD subs probably paid $500 or less for a tv. Just give us quality. We don't care about saving $5 or $10 a month so we can watch a watered down version.

I will jump off they get crazy with pricing. The best HD is still OTA and I can get it perfectly. The price they are charging now is a bit much for the quality/content IMO. Even before the whole Voom downresolution the content sucked chunks. I had it because I enjoy HD, but lets be truthful, you could watch the entire content of the voom channels in a month!

lots of HD subs have 130$ a month bills also, I have a feeling alot of these high $ customers are HD sub's, I know I am ;)

Very true but I will only pay so much as I stated esp with the current quality/content. Now, if they say you get all the Vooms with above avg content and the HD Pak in full res with a GOOD bitrate I will be willing to pay extra. Otherwise they can bite me :D :D

I would love to have the standard def sat channels in hd lite , but I will not be willing to pay for hd lite as advertised as true HD. I think the whole thing is related to bandwith and the transition to mpeg4. Once they get the transition finished with hd customers then they can start the transition for the rest of the sd customers. Then I hope that all the Dish sd channels look as good as hd lite and the true hd channels will be in true HD. I just hope Dish isn't waiting to finish the mpeg4 transition , estimated to be complete in 3 - 4 years, to give us TRUE HD in all its glory.:hungry:

Hopefully in the next decade this whole transition from sd to hd will be finished and we will be watching all the satellite and cable channels in true hd . But in the end the all mighty dollar will most likely win out and we will be watching compressed hd channels like we do today on the satellite sd channels. OF course many new technologies will exist then and we might be doing the mpeg 24 transition to squeeze even more bandwith from the existing satellites.

The picture quality might be subjective, but the pixelation and picture freezing and audio drop outs that I am seeing are a sure sign that they have not improved the quality. The picture still sucks and if Dish doeas not improve the pixelation by the first week in January, I am dropping the Voom package completely.
IMO that is what everyone should do else be strung along indefinately

Well truer words have never been spoken i will sell my Dish Hd equipment and wait for dvd's. Like we HD tv'er have been saying. We pay for the highest pak's to get all of the HD we can and get treated like the step children. Every month Dish keeps adding BFE locals and Ethnic channels for a small percentage of the population (except Spanish). Paying over 130 a month for less service and quality SUCKS now who is the "PIG" dish??

well if the raise the price of the hd pack and drop the voom pack I guess it makes no difference

Unless the new hd pack includes the Voom channels and you can't seperate the one group of channels from the other. And of course the new price for hd pack will most likely go up by another $5.00 when they add the other 5 voom channels.

Sheesh... What are you people subscribing to? From DirecTV I get Total Choice Plus $45.99, HD Pack $10.99, HBO ($12 - first premium), Showtime ($11 second premium) for a base price of $79.98 per month. 3 x $5 additional receiver fee theoretically gets me to $94.98. (I don't actually pay nearly that much thanks to a CSR discount.)

What's the point of subscribing to the SD premiums? I think a lot of people here could lower their bills a lot by dropping the everything packs and just subbing to HBO and Showtime.

My wife and I still watch alot of Starz and Encore on our 27" SD TV in our bedroom. We watch what we can in HD but still "enjoy" SD in our bedroom.

more than 4 folks in the household, which creates the need for lots of different viewing and receivers

3 DVR's all with fees(comes out the same as AE pak, so why not have all those extra's :)),

4 extra receiver fees

HD Pak/Locals/Voom and there you are

DVR 510 use in RV

Will new HD locals be available for Puerto Rico also?
