VOOM Goes BOOM - update Dish Drops all 15 VOOM Channels

I think if VOOM offered their channels individually (ala carte at a reasonable price) instead of forcing carriage for all 15 (all or nothing), they could have something viable to market. I, for one, would subscribe to MonstersHD for example, but, I don't want most of the other channels they offered. That's why I dropped to the essentials package when E* made it available.

The Cablevision board seems more concerned about the Voom Pak now requiring a cable card and/or new receiver.

Does not seem to make sense that Cablevision would move Voom channels to an MPEG-4 where they are required to upgrade receivers if they are going to also drop them.

It also makes little sense for the parent company to drop it's own product now. Cablevision is the only thing that will help keep Voom alive during the court trials. If it looks like Voom is winning in court, they could afford to let voom go then, but it seems premature and unlikely to drop them immediately just because Dish had a cow.

The Dish/Voom Boom should not have much weight in Cablevision's relationship with Voom.

i too would be surprised if Cablevision pulls the plug. The only reason i mention all that is that some here seemed certain that Cablevision was ready to pull the plug. The lack of other customers MIGHT be factor in their decision but let's wait and see.

I suspect they will have to pull the plug, unless they just want endless repeats, they do not have the cash coming in from Dish any more to support new programming. They can pull the plug and still blame Dish.

I had both E* and D* for two days (a week ago) and compared several channels for HD PQ. D* is definitely better overall.

Did you compare HBO by any chance? 'Cause I've noticed it looks unjustifiably terrible on E*—very over compressed so that quick cuts and motion basically cause the picture to fall apart into nothing but artifacts. Just wondering how much better D* looks.

Also, as long as the fast-forward function isn't working, I have trouble believing that the 722s and 622s are really any better than what D* offers.

DirecTV chose to stay with mainstream HD and rejected Voom many times.

Voom made Dish unique, offering something no other satellite service could.

Now Dish has chosen to follow DirecTV and go with mainstream HD channels too. If I wanted that, I would have chosen DirecTV. Now that both are going the same route, it makes sense to go with the company already established with mainstream HD and the satellites to deliver it.

I'm not paying $125 a month to wait for Dish to catch up anymore.

Neither am I! Finally called Directv and got a great deal the same channels that I paid $127 a month for over 45% less the first year then 30% there after. I would still rather be willing to pay a premium for Voom so if anyone in the West Coast picks up Voom we would switch no problem at all.

Not about VOOM

Why was this posted on the VOOM thread? Mod please move this to the correct forum and thread.

You are aware that you will now have twice the wiring.................

So, July 1st today... did cablevision pull an e* and drop em like a butterfingered theif in the night, or are they still on the air (for now)?

I suspect that we would hear if they were dropped.

Still on the air. Cablevision needs them to keep ahead of Verizon FIOS in the HD count, since more HD is coming to the N NJ & NY area in 3 weeks from Verizon.

Thats great news! I sure do hope they get back on dish or even direc.

Voom is sorely missed. Tv is just not the same.

Boring!:(

I believe it's pretty well established that Voom cannot do this now or they would loose their court case. I do not believe they should either, change their business plan, since their business plan was based on their long-term agreement with Dish.

Dish broke that agreements and Voom is suing for 1 billion. Offering individual Voom channels would not work with their court plans now.

I do not blame Voom for suing. I hope they win if they are found in the right. They do not need to change their service offerings to try to stay afloat when they feel it is Dish who tanked the company by breaking their agreement.

Until the court starts to weigh in, I believe Voom should uphold their all or nothing policy - for now.

I don't think that it is accurate to say that VOOM CAN'T do it. Personally I tyhink that VOOm should have done that long ago and tried to make up lost revenue from DISH with new customers. But at this point they may well have decided not to market the service in any way because of the lawsuit.

BTW i think the talk about VOOM going away on cablevision was based in part on the belief that the new VOD offering was replacing VOOM. that was never stated in the news releases but a fe folks here were fairly certain it was so. they may well turn out to be right but so far I have seen nothing stating this directly.

We have seen this before . The superstations have been killed off several times by board members who assumed that one development or another would surely kill them and those pronouncements were accepted as gospel by many. We could be seeing the same thing here. only time will tell.

About 2 nights a week, IFC is airing horrors that were exclusive to Monsters HD. Two evenings of great horror per week, probably the same great HD transfers from Monsters HDs library.

Seems like IFC is doing this on purpose. I've never seen an IFC line-up that matches Monsters HD like the last two weeks. Also seems like Rainbow will just move their Monsters HD library to IFC HD if Voom tanks.

This week featured House of 1000 Corpses, Scanners, Return of the Living Dead, Wendigo, Madman, the Burning, Strangeland, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and AM Kill (for the Kung Fu peple).

Of course who has IFC HD? And when, if ever, will Dish get IFC HD?

I wish we had IFCHD, then at least I could get some horror movies back. I still wouldnt care if MonstersHD went commercial like IFC to pay the bills, as long as its not during the movie and the movie is uncut just like IFC I would be happy.

It's not that they can't, but I'm will to bet their lawyers are advising them not to at this point.

I bet they will re-offer these channels individually or as a smaller pack if the lawyers see the court case slipping away.

Forcing 15 channels is quite extreme for a no name company like Voom. Ted Turner can get away with that, but not a no name like Voom.

IFC is commercial free. They better not go commercial.

A return of Monsters HD with commercials? I'm not quite ready to lower my standards.

Monsters HD is King as is. Long live the king!
