VOOM Goes BOOM - update Dish Drops all 15 VOOM Channels

I really hope some tough questions are asked at the meet and greet.

Don't hold your breath. Last year, everyone wanted Charlie to be told that decreased resolution was unacceptable.

"These channels are not available with any other satellite provider."

Thats reason alone to keep them.. Duh competitive advantage. Dish was not another me-too, but it sure is now.. Now there is hardly any diff from E* to D*

Bummer, bummer, bummer. As Voom is heavily dependent on E* as one of it's only two distributors in the US, it probably wont be very long before the remaining 5 are gone, too. Very sad day, after a very happy day...

I just added Ultimate to my package 2 hours ago.

Now I am walking through some guy in the chat dropping it, making sure I will be charged NOTHING!!

:D

Hmm interesting! Well since they pulled 10 are they going to knock $10 bucks of the Ultimate price? I think its $20 so maybe they will lower it to $10... :)

I guess I should clarify. I don't really mean tough questions about their programming choices. Any amount of tough questions isn't likely to change that. I mean asking them WTF is up with their communication, or failure thereof. There was a tech chat where they played cheerleader to the 19 additional channels, yet there's not even a whisper of what's happening to Voom. That's just plain deceptive to me. Why release a press release saying we now have 95 national channels, when by 9 pm pacific that's not the case by any sort of math? Unbelievable! I'm so upset at how Dish handled this that all the positive things I've felt over the past month are gone.

I feel like yelling. Maybe I'll shoot off an email to CEO...

A couple more thoughts (more like rants):

This is Dish caving to D*'s marketing campaign about channels no one has ever heard of. Way to conform Dish! I don't even watch Voom all that much, but that's not the point. Some people do. And how can you tell me that any niche channel is safe now? Honestly, they removed 10 24/7 no commercial HD channels (that repeated very often) for part time HD or fishing in SD? Who's the genious that designed that master plan? Before I didn't think complaining that X channel should be booted in favor of Y channel was constructive. Now I think that anyone can lobby for the removal of any channel they don't like in favor of something they want. Bring on the complaining about how Channel Z is lame and should be booted...

Good riddance, bring us more quality national HD. They sure as hell got the room for it now.

Those had 24-7 FULL HD PROGRAMMING at least they could've waited until they could replace them with other FULL HD PROGRAMMING. What a rip!

Tell us where this "quality national HD" is going to come from???? There is none. It's that simple.

They have taken away quality 24/7 HD programming away for what reason? To put up some some "national HD channel" that shows 2 hours of HD programming a night! You guys are f'in idiots!

I can't wait til your beloved series is over, kaput, finished, then what are you going to watch in HD on your "national HD channel"???????????

Quality? What like the Viacom channels that haven't shown any HD yet?

i think this will only upset a small percentage

And that makes it ok to substitute channels with little HD for commercial free channels with only HD?

And again, my biggest issue is the failure in communication. In fact, this wasn't a failure- this strikes me as calculated and deceptive on Dish's part. Each of our opinions about what makes for a better HD channel is subjective; fine, I can agree with that. So E* ultimately made a decision on what to carry; fine- they're the service provider. But to proclaim to the heavens that we added 22 HD channels today and not even throw in a little asterisk about removing another 10... THAT'S JUST PLAIN WRONG!

What quality national HD is there that we don't have? The only thing I would want to see is Mojo, but it sounds like nobody else does. Fox channels apparently aren't coming soon for political reasons, and I'm told that the MTV channels don't air true HD.

I have a feeling that the space was freed for the Eastern Arc project since they didn't get AMC14. Eastern Arc will be a good thing if it results in better SD PQ, but who says it will? They could end up compressing the channels more to make room for more channels nobody wants. And one dish? Why should anyone care if their subscription requires more than one dish, and I have a feeling that the sort of person who does isn't going to be happy with the size of that one dish when they see it anyway.

Admit that you were just watching VOOM because it was in HD. Even 1 or 2 hours of HD on other channels of shows that I actually watch is worth it over VOOM. And the shows yet to be shown or produced in HD still look tons better in non-compressed SD.

The Voom channels were some of my favorite. I can already tell you I would give up all of the new channels launched today for the removed Voom channels or all five of the remaining Voom channels for the ten Voom that left. They did not consult me.

If I wanted Dish HD with no Voom, I would go to DirectTV and save money as I have AT250+3 premiums and the $20 HD ultimate package.

I am not paying $20 more for a fishing channel--period.

Ultra HD is one of my favorite channels--they actually talk about fashion unlike reality/wedding shows from hell Style Network.

They will be hearing from me tomorrow.
