Voom Channel Shuffle?

Basically they removed one of the most unique VOOM channels that was showing the greatest movies from arround the world in HD (some of them not available in HD anywhere else) and replaced it with just another Hollywood channel, that is currently showing a Ben Stiller movie in what looks to me as an upconverted SD. Thanks VOOM!

Never liked to read a movie.....whatever happened to DUBBING??????

Uh oh... does all this shifting of channel numbers also automatically change any potential DVR schedules? I think I have 2 or 3 movies set to record in the next week. I better go check em out.
FilmFest is still on the same channel it has been on (9480). There was a brief period this morning where it got flip-flopped with what WAS World Cinema (and is now Voom HD Movies), but they fixed the flip-flop. Voom HD Movies is on 9475 (old World Cinema channel#), even though the guide still indicates WORLD, rather than Voom HD Movies.

My problem with VOOM is they don't close caption anything. I love the PQ on Monsters, but, very seldom watch because of lack of CC, kind of hard to enjoy if you can't hear everything the actors say. I have emailed numerous times and never received a reply.

OK, now I'm totally confused.

Right now (6PM MST), 9475 still says WORLD and 9480 still says FILMF.

Both channels programming match what it says on the EPG.

9480 has a documentary on, and appears to have mostly documentaries over the next couple days. Which would lead me to believe it's FilmFest, but I haven't seen a logo yet.

9475 has an Indian movie on, but it's in English. The schedule shows a slightly greater variety of films than usual, and it's more mainstream. Which would lead me to believe it's the new movie channel.

BUT...9475 just showed a FilmFest logo in the corner.

So...the confusion is understandable.

I have to agree. I somehow feel disconnected from the movie when I'm forced to focus on the bottom of the screen, like I'm missing out on the "action." You know?

I can understand this feeling in a theater, but I've never felt this while watching TV. I've never felt forced to "focus" on the bottom of the screen anyway. How long does it take to absorb one sentence? Half second?

That said, World Cinema never seemed to have anything I was interested in. I'm still hoping we really get IFC-HD, and that Sundance will follow suit.

I think I'm sad. While there were many movies on World Cinema that I didnt like all that much, I saw some truly outstanding stuff over the past year and half on WC. The Voom HD Movies offerings reminds me a bit too much of HDNet Movies...and I guess I really dont need two of those... <sigh>.

I'm with you. The same here i was watching a movie on 9475, the filmfest logo came on. A few minutes later the movie ended and then the logo for voomhdmovies appeared and said "next on voomhdmovies," etc..
i think maybe their machine is still inserting the filfmest logo automatically on that channel. You would think all of those bugs would have been worked out before the channel goes live. Not sure why the channel name in the guide didnt change today. i guess we will have to wait until next wed.
No matter what, the guide for both channels shows the same 2 or 3 movies over and over. That ben stiller movie was on at least 3 times today:(

The good news: Looking through the FilmFest schedule for the next 10 days, much—I'd say the majority—of the programming looks like it's from WC.

The bad news: This channel launch has been rather half-assed. I watched a little of a Frankie Avalon racing movie last night, just to see if the issues from the morning were fixed, and they still had the FilmFest ID bug. Looking through the 10 days of schedules, the channel looks like a lot of FilmFest programming with some films from the 90s thrown in. You'd think that they would have wanted to kick things off with a strong lineup and a few really exciting movies.

I assume that the end game is art- and foreign films on Film Fest, classic and recent Hollywood stuff on Movies HD. But I don't quite understand why Voom bothered with the re-branding if they weren't ready for a full-fledged launch.

World Cinima was my favoirte voom channel because they showed movies you couldn't see anywhere else. If we're gonna get more of what we already have (Holywood movies) that will be a huge dissapointment.

Disappointed over the switch

I agree! I thought we were getting a NEW channel, not a replacement for one of my Voom favorites! Some of us like foreign films. I get enough Hollywood garbage already. :(

Eastern Arc - Advantage/purpose

world cinema hd removed or merged?
