VIP 922 to Hopper - should I do it?

My 922 is failing - should I have any concerns about moving to a Hopper?

Any concerns with DVR HD quality?

I have a 922 and two 211s with DVR, all three boxes with OTAs. So I guess I need 2 Hoppers and 1 joey and 1 OTA?

I do have all Quad RG6 cable so I should be OK there - all home runs to a central wiring closet in the basement.

Does each Hopper come with a Joey?

Anything I should be concerned about or should I get the upgrade before the 922 completely dies (it stops and has just a loud fan noise from time to time).

What should the cost be? I have seen $50 upgrade for each Hopper is that true?

thanks

The hopper and Joey are separate priced. I have had both the 922 ,which sucked big time, and now two hoppers + 2 ota tuners and two joeys. DEFINITELY recommend the hopper /joey setup. Much better than any other receiver DISH has ever had. The upgrade price is up to DISH and what they decide. But I would call them and find out .

Based on everything I have read here, the question is,why wouldn't you upgrade from a 922 to a hopper?

Really the only reason I could see not to upgrade to the Hopper would be the increase of the monthly cost. You would be getting more for the money though.

Off topic, but I would like to know if you can connect two ota modules to one Hopper and have two ota tuners on the one unit? Could you let me know if this has been tried and if it worked?

HD DVR quality...is the Hopper as good or better than the VIP 922 from a picture quality standpoint? (on dish support site people are complaining about quality but they don't say wait they are recording -so it may be unreliable or bad complaint).

Can you use all 2TB of storage? I don't see myself using the PrimeTime Anytime feature.

Not sure how it compares to the 922, but from what I've gathered here, the picture "seems " to be better with the hopper than previous units.

You get 1.25 tb or somewhat close to that. You can still add externals.

And as to ptat , I was surprised by how useful it was to me. Watching several shows because of it that I would have never followed.

I went from the 922 to the hopper and it was the best decision I have made so far. PTAT alone has alleviated the timer conflicts we suffered from with the 922.
It also has allowed me to watch shows, like msmith, that would have not made the cut before because of conflicts. The stability of the hopper is far superior to the 922 (I went through 3 in as many months.) They are also much better at updating sw and adding features to the hopper. If I were you, I would wait no longer. :)

I've never tried to hook both of my ota tuners to the same hopper and as far as I know it isn't possible.

Scott and several others have confirmed that this will not work.

Go Hopper/Joey. Even with the few bugs, it has been an improvement over my 722K... Mainly due to my enjoyment of PTAT.

VIP 722K will not boot, recovering recorded shows

Thinking of switching from Directv to Dish - Any tips?
