VIP 722 issues- Help

I just got Dish Network about 3 weeks ago. I have the VIP 722 DVR. It's connected to my Samsung HD 1080P TV and also my TV in the bedroom. I have it set on dual mode and it work fine for about 2 day until I notice that my HD TV had the picture in the morning as if it were set in PIP mode in the update left had corner of my HD TV. I reset the receiver and it work fine for about two day. Then the same problem kept happening. I called Dish Network and they weren't sure what the issue was, so they sent me a different receiver. Within 2 hours the same problem arouse. I checked my TV and the PIP is off. I changed the HDMI cable and still the same problem came up. I called Dish Network again and they stated it may be a software issue and the gentle I spoke to directed me to this site. Any idea's what the problem is? The TV in my bedroom works perfectly fine. Please let me know.

It's a bug in the new 722 software from what I've seen. Change the format (* key on the remote) and it'll put the picture back to normal, but it'll keep happening when someone changes the format on TV 2 until the bug is fixed and pushed out.
 
I have tried to hit the format key numerous times and it does not correct the issue, but thanks for the reply. I have also tried to hit the PIP button on the dish remote with no luck.
 
Strange, the format key fixes it on mine every time, and it's clearly the same issue. I wonder what the difference is....
 
I'm not sure, but I'll try it again if the problem comes up again. The only way I can get it fixed now is to reset the whole rec. I just think it's funny that when I called dish they stated that the never heard of the problem, when clearly there is one.
 
Mine is starting this. Have to soft reboot to get out of it.

Try HDTV Setup on the receiver menu. Change one of the options, like change 16x9 to 4x3, press Select on the remote, and then change it back to what it's supposed to be.

There are a lot of threads about this ongoing, stupid problem. Dish network is becoming a big(ger) joke.:D
 
I am on my 4th new receiver in 3 weeks, and I have had the same problem with each one. Dish doesn't seem to have an answer, and for me, a reboot is the only thing that will help. I will try the changing from 16x9 to 4x3 the next time it happens, but so far, only a front panel reset will do the trick. I believe it has to do when TV2 changes their viewing format, for it only happens to me when my wife and kids are using TV2. I have tried several different things to try and diagnose this issue with no luck. If you find out anything new, please let me know.

I am sorry you are having this problem, but I am happy to find out that I am not the only one having this issue.

So please, tell me what steps you do to resolve this problem without a reboot. When I press the * button, my receiver locks up, and a reboot is necessary.

There is an apparent bug in the new "Turbo" software for the 722 that is causing the picture size on TV1 to shrink into the upper corner. It starts with TV2 that won't remember Normal/Letterbox format on HD channels from day to day, the TV2 format get's reset overnight at update/reboot.

Then changing TV2 back to Letterbox causes the tiny corner screen on TV1.

I'm able to restore TV1 by changing the HDTV Setup in the Dish receiver menu as I mention above. It's faster than a reboot, but no less annoying.

Here's an email I got from Dish three weeks ago:

Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Our engineering department is aware of this issue. It has been determined the issue is software related and we are actively working on a resolution.
 
I told my family not to even watch the HD channels on TV2, I hope this corrects the problem. I sent a link to this thread to DISH, and this is what I received in return. Talk about customer service and one hand not know what the other hand is doing...

Unfortunately I am unable to assist you via email any longer as a technician is required on site to resolve this issue. I will email the local office requesting a field service manager come to your home however you will need to call us at 1-800-333-3474 to set up the appointment.
Funny, I send them a link to this thread where others are having the same problem, and they tell me they can't help me and that a technician needs to come to my house. I have had two come in the last two weeks. Then above, DISH states that they are aware of this problem and that it is a software issue. I truly don't think they have a clue. If anyone finds any more about this problem, please let me know. And if you could, please send me links to other threads that discuss this issue.

I have never had a problem just watching TV2, but when switching TV2 from Normal to Letterbox mode (or vice versa) it will almost always cause the problem. So go ahead and watch TV2, just remind everyone not to press that aspect button. :eureka

Small Edit: I wouldn't bother letting them send anyone else to your home, or getting new receivers. Until they push out another software update the problem will remain.
 
Since I this problem in, I haven't touch the format button and TV2 and haven't had a single problem. Thank you all for your inputt as I think the format button on TV2 was casuing this issue.
