ViP 622 & 722 Running Bug Thread

I got L655 today. Since I received L655, my 722K freezes up although I continue to get Audio but the Video totally freezes, no access to menus nothing. I have to do a complete power cycle, sometimes two or more. After 2 power cycles or more the receiver has to download Guide data again. One series of reboots, and hangs, only to reboot again, took 35 minutes before the receiver became functional again.

Since 3pm today my 722k has needed to be rebooted 20-25 times. Dish is sending me a new 722k although I was told it would not arrive till September 8th, (which sucks).

We've been seeing the loss of satellite signal screen (002) while watching something pre-recorded recently. I thought that was something people on 622 or 722 receivers were seeing but I hadn't read anything about 722K receivers doing it.

I'm having the same problem. I just contacted Dish. This is really not acceptable, especially with the new TV season starting.

Woke up this morning to an "error" message and black screens on all sat tuners. It would tune OTA just fine, but when I went back to a sat channel, black screen again with a message telling me to RBR.

Nice, and not the first time.

had a customer with the same issue and all I could come up with was that at night before bed they were shutting down on OTA and the sat tuner would not update nightly.so after reinstalling and replacing every component in the system with no improvement, I suggested that they verify they are on a sat channel before shutting down.on the last contact with the customer, all was just fine now:confused:

That may have been tuner 2. Tuner 1 may still have been on an OTA channel that shut down, even for a little while. In single mode you can switch tuners with the swap button and then select satellite channels on each. The recall button works only on the current tuner while the swap will get both tuners. In dual mode you would need to use the IR remote to change tuner 1.

Interesting. I had the same problem, but it cleared up. Hmm. Thanks for the info.

I can almost duplicate this error at will.... One thing I've seen numerous times is this:

Go into local digital channel setup menu. Add or delete a channel -- anything that requires a "save" -- and then hit "Done". It will tell you it's writing the info to memory. Once at that screen, it will kick out to the "002" error screen but many times the satellite, channel, and transponder fields are BLANK.

Anyone else seen that ? Can anyone else try it ?

I've got a 722K with L655 software. Seems to me this started with L654 maybe.

Ive not seen that but will try when I get a chance.

The thing I can almost always reproduce, is deleting something on the EHD and the sat tuner freezing when I go back to live tv.

I should add, when I get the "002" screen, I then hit the 'menu' button. The mini-window in the upper-right will be blank and no audio. Then when I select "Program Guide", I get the error message that says something along the lines of "unable to load guide data". People with failing hard drives see the same error but I've had no indications of any real HDD problems.

I have been posting in the L622 software bug thread, but I now think it might be hardware, but wondered if anyone else has seen this.

Have a VIP722 in dual mode, working fine since April 09, till now. For the last three weeks I have been noticing that the fan on the dvr would be very loud and the green light would cycle on and off and no audio or video on TV. It is occurring in the mornings, EVERY morning. Last week when I got home from work one morning at 8AM the receiver was doing the same thing as usual. I did not bother trying to reboot it but went right to sleep. In the afternoon the receiver was fine and working normally. I checked the settings at the suggestion of a helpful person elsewhere to see what time the receiver was set to receive updates thinking it might have gotten changed to 6AM somehow. It was still set at 3AM so that is not necessarily the problem. What I think is that somehow the morning update is taking too long to complete for some reason and is rebooting for the whole mornings. In the afternoons and evenings there are no problems and the receiver works flawlessly on both live tv and recordings. My wife has the timer set to record Regis every morning at 9AM. She missed 3 recordings two weeks ago and it did not record on 4 days last week either. There are no problems in our house unless my wife misses Regis so I really need to get this fixed. Same thing again this weekend and this week and now a hard reboot won't clear it either. No Regis again yesterday. In the afternoon everything is OK, same at night. I'm beginning to think this might be a hardware/receiver issue and not a software issue, however the trouble seems to have started around the time the L622 software started rolling out, but it could be a coincidence. When I got home today (Monday) the receiver was still doing it. It's almost as if there's a switch going off telling the receiver to go into this mode and it doesn't clear till sometime mid morning or afternoon and then everything is fine until the next morning. Don't know when it stops doing it actually because I'm not available to watch it during the day (sleeping - work nights) and there is no one here till wife and kids get home around 3 PM. I tried check switch, download guide and hard reboot (as suggested in the software bug thread) Sunday after things cleared up to see if that has any effect on it. It did not. My wife told me that the receiver was still rebooting when she got home at 3PM and she did a hard reboot to get it going again. Again it worked fine through the rest of the evening until I left for work. Has anyone else been seeing this? Should I just try to get a new receiver? I'm already on my second 722 since December.

A few more details:

My update time is also set at 3 AM. I have 5 timers set:

1 - Army Wives - all new
2 - The Closer - all new
3 - Monk - all new
4 - Psych - all new
5 - Regis & Kelly - all

Nearly every morning the fan is running at full speed, the green light for TV1 comes on intermittently and there is no picture & popping noises on TV1 and snow with no sound on TV2. At first this would go on most of the morning, now it is not clearing until late aftenoon or evening. Last night it finally cleared at around 8 PM. The reciever tends not to respond to soft or hard reboots anymore. Last night I decided to unplug the receiver from power before bed and this morning plugged it back in, but it just went right into its high speed fan endless reboot cycle again.

I am connected by HDMI and optical audio to a Harmon Kardon receiver and out to TV1 (Samsung plasma) with HDMI & TV2 (Samsung LCD) by coax. My receiver is in a large walkin closet on a shelf with nothing within six inches on each side and top. The top of the closet has a vent allowing heat to escape through the ceiling and the closet doors are 4 ft wide and floor to ceiling louvres. I do not have a seperate fan installed and am not sure how to check temperatures. I can tell it runs pretty hot with the fan on full though, at least to the touch. We weren't having any problems until around the time of the L622 software roll out. Not 100% sure it started after the update though because until we had this problem I never checked the software version. Is there a way to force the receiver to redownload the software update in case it is corrupted or got interrupted during download?

My 722 has began popping up with the searching for sat screen in the middle of watching a prerecorded program stopping the program that I was watching. . I channel up and the live pic comes back, but then I have to go find my prerecorded program and resume it where it left off when the searching for sat screen popped up. This has happened four or five time in the last week. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS HAPPEN.

Remote for 722k

Had a remote for the 722k stop communicating with the DVR. Had to do a red button reset. It then was working fine. Anyone else see this type of problem?

Odd little bugs, maybe covered before?

Sorry, I didn't have time to read this whole thread. If there's a pertinent reply already, my apologies.

I have a ViP722 running in single mode. When watching one program, I can bring up the guide and look at other program descriptions. But if you press the Info button, you get info for the program that you came from, which is now in the little box in the upper right corner. Used to be, you got info for the program that you were looking at in the guide. Sometimes you need a little more info, and that was the way to get it.

After the grouping feature came out, I had the DVR group my programs. Very handy. But last night, I went into a group and selected Edit. Then used the Select All button to do a mass delete. After confirming, it took a long time to do the deletion, longer than I thought it should for eight recordings. Back to the main listing, and ALL recorded programs were gone! I'm sure I had only selected programs in the group. No big loss for me, but it could be for others.

Other than one lockup overnight and a timer that stopped 15 mins. into a one hour recording, there haven't been any major problems. I don't know my version number since I'm at work now, but can edit this post later with it.

I have these problems as well and this is from a post I made in a different thread put probably belongs over hear.

http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-technical-discussions/189579-5-receivers-6-service-visits-722-722k-keep-restarting.html

I had DISH installed in Jan. '09 & had no problems at all until early July 2009, when my original 722 started acting up - restarting repeatedly, hard drive running at all different times of day or night, and could not watch either TV1 or TV2 until the rcvr finished resetting.

I have had the same problems as “richjh213” since August. Sometimes I also get a blank TV screen but the guide will display then I can go to “My Recordings” and play a recorded show but again just a blank screen then fast forward then back to “Live TV” and the TV programming will return to normal. I am on my 6th VIP 722 since 5/08.

The 722 replacement unit #2 replaced in 8/09 also had a DVR hard drive that was locking up so after reading some of the threads on this site I think the #1 & #2 722 replacements may have been caused by high DVR hard drive temps >142 deg (menu 63 counters). By placing the 722 on its side and elevating it so that fan air moves through the unit I have gotten my Avg. Temp down to 107 deg.

722 Replacement units #3-#6 DVR hard drive functions seem to be working fine but again like “richjh213” these units keep locking up. I just double checked the house electrical and no open grounds or REV polarity. Over the past few months these 722’s have been plugged into the wall or a “APC” surge protector. I am going to try a different wall plug though.

Also not sure if dish antenna grounding has any impact on this issue….but I found some loose Sat cable connections and some of the Sat cable grounds are rusted up and some of the copper grounds on the house where the Sat cable enters the house were a bit loose. I tightened everything down.

The video feed is also via HDMI on a Harman Kardon AV receiver and optical audio.

During the last 2 Dish Tech calls the tech said they were receiving info from the 722 over the network that my 722’s were bad…..one tech referenced the screen (613 details (Value:7: -2)) indicated that the hard drive was bad. The last three 722’s have had this value.

If I don’t get this fixed fast I think I am going back to Comcast…..I can’t believe I am saying this but I would save a lot of money….of course cheaper programming but at least it works most of the time.
