VIP-612 and Harmony 670

I found a few threads, mostly concerning the 622 and Harmony remotes, but I only got Dish yesterday and am having a difficult time understanding alot of what is said.

I got a VIP-612 and a VIP-211 yesterday as I am getting the Top 200+locals and the Silver HD package. I have a Harmony 880 that is programmed to use the VIP-211 and it is working perfectly (for one day's use anyway ). However, I went through the setup for the VIP-612 using my Harmony 670 and it does not work at all. I understand this PVR uses both IR and URF, but is it locked into URF? I also read about TV1 and TV2 settings, but I don't really know what's going on there either. I guess I just don't have my head wrapped around all the dish technology yet - I've never had it before, nor known anyone else well enough that had it to know a little about it.

I'd really like to be able to use the Harmony, but if it's not possible, I guess I'll live and just program the DN remote for my devices when watching TV.

I had this problem getting my 880 set up with my 612... In one of the settings menu's (I want to say system info, but am not sure) you can change the remote type to IR... then the 612 will work fine with your Harmony...

Thanks, I had just found some instructions on how to change the receiver to IR and set the address to 01, which is supposed to allow it to work. Doesn't appear to be a whole lot of info on the 612.

I'll give it another shot this evening and post my experience along with the directions I followed in case someone else in my shoes happens along.

Hi, please post your results. I am trying to get my VIP 612 to work with my Harmony 890 and the 612 wont respond to the IR signals from the Harmony. It works fine with the Dish UHF remote.

The instructions for changing a 612 from rf to ir are in the User's Guide.

There are instructions for changing the REMOTE from UHF to IR but not to setup the VIP-612 to receive IR signals. As Senior Member of this forum, I expect you to read the whole post before posting a silly RTFM comment.

The correct answer is:

Press Menu on the Dish remote
Press 6-1-3
Press 'Sat' button until all lights light up
Press channel number, 1 is for IR 2,3,4 are for UHF
Press '#', wait for Sat button to blink 3 times
Press 'Record' button 3 times

The channel number will change to '1' and now your box will respond to IR signals. For some reason my installer had set my box to channel 4, which only responds to UHF.

ViP 722 TV2

Thanks for the post on the 612 and IR - very helpful.

I also have 722s and would like to use IR to control the TV2 output so I can control it via a wireless extender. Is there any way to do this?

Alternatively, can I use a Logitech 890 to control TV2 directly via RF?
