I was looking at Tailgaters and VIP 211K's on eBay and ran across a Dish dealer who states the 211K will run on a 12V DC source with a simple adapter for the 110V AC plug. Is he nuts or am I missing something? This is what he wrote back when I asked about his statement

"Yes,

The receiver will run off 12 volt power, correct though it obviously has a 110 normal house plug with ground so you would need an adapter.

We had a customer who had a wall plate that took the house plug and he was able to switch it from 110 to 12v.

So though it will run off 12v you will need a plug that fits the normal house plug.

You may do this or you may also get an inverted both would wok fine."

Yes, that would be one interesting PS to detect the difference and pass thru. Not that it can't be done, but I don't see the business case for Dish to do so.

He most likely was in an RV with an inverter wired to his house plugs for when there is no 120V available. Quite common in the larger RVs. In any case, the 211 will NOT run 12 volts DC but even a small 100 watt inverter will run it just fine.
