I am still trying to clear up my less than perfect video output from my new DVR625...Dish recommended using a Video S Cable from the reciever to the tv1. My question is how would that work? Does the S Vid cable carry audio signal or do you need a seperate cable for audio?

I may also try the rca video outs direct into my tv...

What do you guys recommend? My old 301 had a better picture than the new 625! Any other suggestions?

S video is video only you will still need RCA type cables for the audio!
If you were using the RF (f type) connector you should see an improvement!!

I am using RF now and it is nothing to write home about...BUT, my old 301 was hooked up the same way and it was crystal clear! Why the difference? Same coax cable, same tv...new receiver??

The 625 should have an attenuator for the RF output it could be overdriving the output to the TV. A/V or "S" video is a much better way of feeding the signal to your TV if it has those inputs.

The only difference is the tuner of the receiver!!
You should try the S anyway you will probably like it better!!
I have a 311 and I use the RF and the S outputs for me no comparison.

Well, I ordered an S Video cable and a digital fiber optic cable for my surround sound receiver! Plan to install this weekend...I'll let you know how it turns out! I'm not expecting much of an improvement, but I hope I am pleasantly surprised!!

Oh, BTW...your 625 should have had an S-video cable included. At least mine did. I'm looking at it as I type.

Yea I have the 625 and it came with an s-video cable. The only cable that it didn't come with was the optical which can be found for cheap on Ebay.

The S-Video looks much better than composite or coax/modulated.

Well, I couldn't wait! I got an RCA high end Video S cable and a optical cable for my surround receiver! I must say...it is a great suprise! The video is much more sharp and clear...still a little pixelation in the background but overall an excellent upgrade! The sound is just awesome!! Even the audio from the tv is 100% better than the Coax connection. You really can see and hear the difference!

Watch HBO with that setup, most movies on HBO-E and HBO-W are in Surround Sound.

All I can say is WOW! It sounds great! I truly have theater grade sound in my living room!

I have the 625 hooked up to my Sony Receiver which has 4 small satellite speakers, a center channel speaker, a 12" powered sub and 2 dual 10" full range towers! You can tell when I crank it up...the dog and cat disappear under the couch! LOL

WOW is right! :) Wait'll you watch a movie in Dolby Surround. The first one I watched with my similar setup was "Master and Commander: The Far Side", and the sound effects of the wooden ship creaking through the surround speakers really put me inside the scene.

Mayor of Dish to be on Charlie Chat tonight...
