VIDEO - Full DISH Hopper with Sling Demo

On the 17th it will be available, however you MUST say you want a Hopper with Sling, if you don't you may get a first Gen Hopper.

A Few Questions, if I may:

1) Will the Hopper Transfer work with previously recorded material, or is it only possible with shows that will be recorded in the future (as demonstrated)?
2) What does the Hopper w/Sling do with PTAT and Hopper Transfers? Are they capable of being transferred to an iOS device?
3) Does the Hopper w/Sling make two copies of a program, one for playback in HD and the other for the iOS transfer?
4) Does the Hopper w/Sling and its Joeys still have access to a program that has been transferred to iOS? (related to #3 above)
5) Does the OTA module work with the Hopper Transfer function?
6) With which Wi-Fi standards does the Hopper w/Sling comply?

Thanks; I'll hang up and take my questions off the air... ;)

Yes, you can prepare the content for the iPad when creating the timer or after its already recorded.

2) What does the Hopper w/Sling do with PTAT and Hopper Transfers? Are they capable of being transferred to an iOS device?

The PTAT event can be transferred but must be saved to the My Recordings folder first. Auto Hop does not work on these recordings on the IPad. Hopper Transfers is currently only supported on iPad.

3) Does the Hopper w/Sling make two copies of a program, one for playback in HD and the other for the iOS transfer?

It makes a copy once you select Prepare for Mobile during timer creation or after recorded, except when there are DRM restrictions. PPV, HBO, CINEMAX. When you attempt to prepare one of those events it will tell you that this transfer will remove the event from the Hopper.

4) Does the Hopper w/Sling and its Joeys still have access to a program that has been transferred to iOS? (related to #3 above)

If I transfer a movie I recorded on TBS, that event is still on the Hopper hard drive.

If I transfer Fast 5 recorded on HBO, it will warn me that Fast 5 will be removed from the Hopper and asks if I want to proceed.

5) Does the OTA module work with the Hopper Transfer function?

Yes

6) With which Wi-Fi standards does the Hopper w/Sling comply?

2.4 and 5 ghz (99 percent sure)

Great features...not sure I am ready to make the move to new Hopper quite yet, enjoying the original still. Transfer feature is nice

Oh, after watching the video again, I forgot my most important question/point: What if I don't want other people to know what I'm watching? I could care less that the nation is watching "Honey-Boo-Boo", and I'm not too crazy about sharing my viewing data with anyone outside of my household.

This is not a bad solution to DRM. And for PPV/HBO stuff, you may be able to record the same program twice. Or else get two Hoppers. ;) What' I'd like to see is non-encrypted OTA stuff. It's not encrypted to begin with, so why encrypt it when transferring to EHD or iOS device, or when Sling streaming? Boy oh boy would I like to get a hold of an unenrypted OTA broadcast on my EHDs. Then I could reverse-engineer the file format and put my own mpeg-2 programs on the EHD.

Use a TiVo for OTA and it will let you transfer the OTA to your PC
