Been with Dish 27 years, prior to that - Echostar. I have a Hoppper 3, Wally, and two Joeys. I called today to ask Dish to upgrade one of the Joeys to a wireless model ($25 fee - Ok by me) , but they insisted I needed a Tech visit ($150) to do it. After saying (politely) "no way", CSR put me on hold to see if anything could be done. When she came back she said If I *added* the wireless Joey they would send it out, but to substitute it would still take a tech visit.

I guess Dish's future is so bright they can throw shade on their customers.... (Don't get me started on my 4 defective receiver replacements in the last 5 years or the series of forced hard drive reformats).

Sigh....
First, you need and access point, too
Second, are you hiding something nefarious and that's why having someone who knows what they're doing install it gets a "no way"??

I have an access point, and a CWNA Wireless Network Professional certification which makes me confident I can handle it. Not that I'd need it - they said they'd send a wireless Joey to me if I added it or signed up for a maintenance contract.

Not sure what you are alluding to about nefarious - nothing comes to mind. I've followed your posts (you've responded helpfully to many of mine) for many years - I've not noticed you to be so negative or am I missing something?

I think he was "No Waying" the $150.00. I would, too, being just a 25 yr. old sub.!!!!!

WOW! Are tech visits now $150?
I was considering having one to replace the wireless J3 (wireless J3 is very laggy and sometimes unresponsive) and put my H3 in the living room with the 4KTV and a wired joey in my bedroom where the H3 is, but if it is now $150 - fagedaboudit!

according to the CSR I spoke to on a related matter that is the current policy for any change to a new type of equipment.

You might see if another CSR is more lenient but there is no guarantee.

It's not really your fault. This is an incredibly slow time of the year. Which you would think would be just the opposite when people are stuck in the house but anytime I see a CSR avoid setting up a truck roll or a customer who refuses a truck roll, I know that's a technician not getting a job that he needs to pay his bills or feed his family or whatever.

Because we have such a reduction in work, I had to let two guys go last month and not because they aren't good at their job.

I am getting tired of the lag and slow performance of the wireless J3.

I moved the wireless access point to within 25 ft of the wireless J3 because the signal strength was very low. The wireless Joey 3 still has to be totally rebooted every 3-4 days when the Joey becomes totally unresponsive.

Switching from live TV to recorded material or back often takes more than 30 seconds with black screens and no response to the remote in the mean time.

It is worse than a J1 I had with the first installation of my J3.

There is no Wireless Joey 3. Only a Wireless Joey (1) and Wireless Joey 4

Well, whatever they installed for me is pretty pitiful.
It says wireless Joey, so that's what I've got.
Tech installed it on my living room Samsung UN65JU6400 4K (non-HDR circa 2015) TV and it is frustrating to deal with. Not replacing it until it croaks.
He put the H3 in the master bedroom because the dish is located right outside that location.
Do you think the Wireless Joey 4 would have better performance?
I think I've located a coaxial cable that goes from behind the living room TV to the area near the dish.
Considering having Dish come out and move the H3 to the living room and rewire the outside connections to have hard wire connections all around.
