Vick and Burress' Sentencing Has Me Steamed

Per ESPN people charged under this law typically face at least 1 year via plea, and up to at least the minimum of 3.5 years.

He committed a crime that could have put him in jail, PER THE LAW for a minimum of 3.5 years. He's been given the privilege, if anything, of serving less than that (20 months + 2 years probation).

Save the tin foil for the leftovers guys, sheesh.
One year would be reasonable those serving more probably have some malice intent. Burress had none. What he had was an accident. He got nearly 2 years because Bloomberg is up for re election next year and campaigned for the maximum sentence. that alone should be a violation of his rights.

Nice job.....you had to dig for that in Google....tell me, was it headline almost every night when Plaxico or Vick did what they did? The ONLY reason the Stallworth got heavy play was because it was local...but within 3 days...NOTHING until he showed up in court.

I'm not even sure I understand the question... Google News is the easiest way to find anything... popular or not.

An accident with a loaded firearm in the waistband of sweatpants that wasn't licensed in any state, in a state with a minimum mandatory sentence of 3.5 years FOR EVEN CARRYING IT and he had it concealed, and discharged it, and nearly hit someone other than himself (according to court reports). He got a gift in the form of even being allowed to plea out. The guy is an idiot and was punished appropriately for his crime in a state with very strict gun laws. Splitting hairs over 8 months because you think it's some political conspiracy doesn't do a very good job of making your case.

Jay Leno said earlier this week during the monologue of his weeknight show that extra security was employed, so that Burress wouldn't try anything. "Like what," Leno said, "steal a guard's gun [and] shoot himself in the other leg?"

thats funny right there. I dont care who you are.

What did he really expect, The Longest Yard??

Plaxico Burress got a zero's welcome behind bars at Rikers Island, including taunts of "a - - hole!" and "The Giants suck!" according to jail guards.

"He was depressed," said one guard from Rikers, where the former Giants superstar spent his first-ever night behind bars. "He was trying to keep to himself, but everyone was yelling at him."

Fellow inmates welcome Plaxico Burress with jeers as he begins 2-year sentence in Rikers Island

Looks like Mr. Vick is well on his way towards a full financial recovery:

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4520896"]Philadelphia Eagles' Michael Vick signs new sponsorship contract with Nike - ESPN[/ame]

I presume you mean UFL, and he has the potential to make much more in the NFL, if he'd only played in the UFL there'd be questions about the level of competition and whatnot... if he's able to perform well in Philly and take advantage of being exposed to a pro NFL offense/defense/atmosphere it's much more valuable to the next team that he signs with.

Nike this morning also denied that he signed a deal btw. He's just getting free stuff, which they do with lots of athletes. No big money sponsorship deal here or anything - Nike: No endorsement deal with Michael Vick | The Fabulous Forum | Los Angeles Times

USL, UBL, UFL, XFL...whatever. The point is, Vick could have played QB right away, played it a lot, and perhaps made himself a valuable commodity in a year if he showed flashes of his old self.

Right now in Philly he's barely showing flashes of anything. Kolb had a good game, and McNabb will come back...which means Vick will stay at gimmick status for the foreseeable future.

Vick was never to be more than a gimmick in Philly. They've said that even now he's not ready to run the offense, which is why Garcia was brought in. Going to the UFL and being locked out of the league until after 11/28 and running some gimmick UFL team offense (games in a couple weeks, i think they start practicing as teams for the first time this week) wouldn't have necessarily been a good thing in the long run.

He needs NFL experience, good or bad, and then he needs a more lucrative contract. Making a NFL cameo in December wouldn't do that.

Just arguing over what ifs.

You may be right, but there are some big name NFL coaches in the other league, there is no guarantee what they do on offense will be a gimmick. Heck, if Vick would agree to go there, they would probably run any offense he asked them to.

Shorter season, more reps at QB...I'm not convinced that would not be better experience for Vick in the long run. I did not even realize he could join the NFL again after November 28, that's even more of a reason for him to go there.

If Vick rips off a few highlight reel runs and 300 yard passing games, NFL GM's could be salivating over him if they lose their QB in November. If things keep progressing this way in Philly, he Vick will still be an unknown quantity at the end of the season.

He didn't get into many plays with McNabb out, he'll get less when McNabb returns. And very few as a QB.
