Vick and Burress' Sentencing Has Me Steamed

I wouldnt mind a pardon. Especially with all of the outside influence from Bloomberg on this. And the press? Just look at the drawings of him in the court room and the evil sneer they paint on his face. There just seems to be this underlying hatred of him and IMO unfair treatment or bias. Did he hurt anyone? did he intend to hurt anyone? No he broke a law. Hell Stallworth f'N KILLED a man and only got 20 days!

You just don't seem to grasp the idea that each state/city varies in their governing laws and the penalties on how they enforce their laws.

For the 10,000,000th time, NYC has tough-as-nails gun laws. This sentence is NOT out of the norm for the city.

Awesome idea. Let's give him an 'Oh that Plaxico' and let him run free from the law. Wonderful. Set a precedent for every person convicted of the same crime in the future. Brilliant....

HD is right, this is not unfair treatment. NYC has tough gun laws. Period. Unfair treatment would be to let Burress off from his conviction.

LMFAO! :)

As far as Burress' sentencing goes, all I can say is that as far as insults go that ranks right up there with slapping you in the b@lls with your own dead dog..

He is dead right. Stallworth was lucky enough to run down the family bread winner and they settled for cash. IMO, you should not be able to buy your way out of murder. They should have put him in jail and still awarded the family a settlement.

He was unlucky enough to hit a man crossing a street where he should not have been. I don't mean to excuse killing the guy, it is horrible for the family, but Stallworth, although technically over the limit, wasn't even cited by the cops at the scene! A blood test is what determined it. I do think the sentence was much too light, but to compare this situation to Burress', or any other, is absurd.

I just saw that Burress dropped his "not guilty" plea, pled "guilty" for family reasons and was sentenced to 2 years . . . 2 years for shooting yourself with a non-registered, concealed gun ??? Similarly, Vick got 2 years for bankrolling and allegedly (still allegedly, correct?) dog fighting, animal cruelty, and allegedly killing dogs?

Listen, I am the biggest supporter of calling today's athlete's pre-Madonna's (let's not forget that only 50 years ago Brooklyn Dodgers' players who lost the World Series had to take winter jobs to pay bills and support their family) but aren't these sentences a little too much?

Let me finish before the attacks begin . .. to me, Vick and Burress are fall guys in which the courts and media are trying to send a message; however, the question remains, who is listening? Dog fighting is a culture in this country and many, many people own, carry and use illegal firearms. Where are those people? Why are they not brought into court on a daily basis and sentenced? Since Vick's arrest, I have been anxiously awaiting for pictures and video of Federal raids on dog-fighting compounds across the country, yet there has been only a few raids and no major arrests in that culture.

I guess my problem is this: why aren't we using Vick and Burress in a joint effort with newly created tasks force that goes after getting guns off the streets, closing dog-fighting rings and such.
:up:up But I feel compelled to tell you that it's "prima donna", not "pre-Madonna". Sorry, its a sickness.

:up:up:up and let me add that what also has me steamed is others getting lighter sentences for worse crimes. something is out of whack! :shh

As was covered in the thread already, crimes aren't compared to each other before they're enforced (and shouldnt be). Plax is lucky to only be serving 20-24 months for a crime with a mandatory minimum of 3.5 years.

Be smarter than the mob.

I don't think he is comparing....he is just stating that the DAs went out of their way to prosecute these "criminals" to the "fullest extent of the law to make an example of them"...well, they made examples of them...so where is the rush of of convictions? I mean why are they not closing in on all those that either running dog rings or carry unlicenced weapons...? Because put a jail sentence to a big names pads THEIR stats on their "dent in crime". Things as far as dog rings and unlawful weapons will more or less stay the same.:rolleyes:

This is no different than padding stats in a blowout game.

yes that's what i meant. thank you. i don't see this effort in other cases if you know what i mean.

How many cases are you monitoring for effort, why would these cases be in the news? Or just assuming?

Three charged in dogfighting ring at Maywood daycare :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime

Courthouse News Service

Sarasota man faces charges of illegal dog fighting - WWSB ABC 7 Florida - Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, North Port, Siesta Key Breaking News, Weather, Sports and Traffic on the Suncoast |

Or do you think the media should follow these stories as rabidly as when a celebirty was involved? That's like asking TMZ to stalk your mom.

well, this is not a place for political debate....but clearly, the harsh sentences were for political purposes.
Yup and that should be illegal. A Harsh sentence given to you because some politician wants it is a violation of your constitutional rights. I have never liked Burress but I will defend him. He got FKD in the A@@!! When did this country become communist china?

Nice job.....you had to dig for that in Google....tell me, was it headline almost every night when Plaxico or Vick did what they did? The ONLY reason the Stallworth got heavy play was because it was local...but within 3 days...NOTHING until he showed up in court.

Per ESPN people charged under this law typically face at least 1 year via plea, and up to at least the minimum of 3.5 years.

He committed a crime that could have put him in jail, PER THE LAW for a minimum of 3.5 years. He's been given the privilege, if anything, of serving less than that (20 months + 2 years probation).

Save the tin foil for the leftovers guys, sheesh.
