Viber App and Battery Life

iPhone 5 user here. Anyone notice a new power drain from the Viber app (for the uninitiated, Viber is a free VOIP app that needs to remain in the background to receive calls)?

Noticed my phone losing power much more quickly of late (after updating a lot of apps), so I tried keeping the background free accept for Viber, with no effect. Now I killed Viber as well and things are back to normal. Being a popular app, I was wondering if others noticed the drain.

This is a member of the Viber R&D Team.

We're continuously working to reduce Viber's battery consumption. We conduct strict testings in our labs with several devices and other than when making a call (when it is natural for the battery to be used), we did not come across any significant battery drain when Viber was simply running in the background. Furthermore, over the course of over 15 hours, on average the battery use was only 2%.
