I agree with DetFan. The hack will probably enable MMS on your phone, but the bigger trick is getting the AT&T system to see your device as something other than an iPhone and allowing those messages through. If your account is not setup as an iPhone, it will also break the visual voice mail.
I too hate the current implementation. On top of the difficult nature of retrieving the message, the image is usually restricted to a size no greater than an avator.
