USC Falls on its Own Sword

Southern Cal penalizes hoops program for NCAA rules violations - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com

No postseason for the Trojans this year, including conference tournament. This is what happens when you recruit sleazy players with their hands out.
Pre-emtive strike. They're hoping by doing this, the NCAA won't do worse.

Georgia did the same thing to it's basketball team after the "How many points in a 3-pt. shot Final Exam" fiasco when they fired Harrick. Didn't work, as the NCAA took away more scholarships as well anyway.

Consider the coach himself was paying cash, then they're likely to come down hard.

Georgia's never recovered from that scandal. Too bad for the current USC team. They are on a 7 game win streak in a year where anyone could win the Pac 10. Make that the Pac 9 now.

Funny thing is, if this had happened at The U, there would have been some kind of uproar to basically kill the athletic program be some folks here and the media...

USC is a throughly corrupt program, top to bottom. But the NCAA will apply its north-south double standard and do nothing.

I still hate to see the program get all the punishment when the ones who caused it aren't even there anymore.

The biggest loser may be Alex Stepheson. He played at Carolina for a couple of years, then transferred to USC after the 08 season. Stepheson had to sit out last season so he missed Carolina's title run, then the scumbag coach he signed with gets fired, and now that he's playing again his team gets put on probation.
