I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF INFORMATION. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. I HAVE A DTV ACCOUNT AT HOME. I CURRENTLY HAVE A RCA DRD435RH RECEIVER IN LIV ROOM AND A D12-100 RECEIVER IN A BEDROOM. I HAVE A OVAL 3LNB DISH. I BOUGHT A HDTV FOR LIV ROOM AND THE PICTURE ISNT IN FOCUS AS OLD TV. MY THINKING IS IT MAY BE THE RCA CONNECTIONS BETWEEN RCA RECEIVER AND NEWTV. I WAS THINKING THAT A BOX WITH HDMI CONNECTION TO TV WOULD GIVE A BETTER PICTURE. SO I WAS THINKING ON PURCHASING A HR24-500 AND JUST USING THE BOX FOR NOW AQUIRING MY STANDARD DIGITAL SIGNAL AND NOT A HD SIGNAL AS YET BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD AT MOMENT TO UPGRADE TO DTVHD SERVICE. CAN I USE THIS RECEIVER THIS WAY WITH WHAT I HAVE FOR EQUIPMENT OR DO I NEED SOMETHING LIKE A B BAND CONVERTER,WHATEVER THAT IS.ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED AND THANKYOU FOR LOOKING AT MY POST.

Composite connection to an HDTV is not optimum for a good picture. Also, if the TV is larger, this also makes the picture fuzzier.
Using the HDMI to the TV is definitely the best way to go. Of course the TV needs to have an HDMI input.

Getting an HR24-500 will result in an HD service charge added to your account regardless of the TV it's connected to.
B Band Converters are only need for the HD channels from the 99 or 103 sats.

BTW, using all CAPs is considered yelling in forums and it is also harder to read.

If you bought a HDTV, your gonna want to get the HD signal as well, as soon as you can it will make a HUGE difference.
Throw a OTA antenna on the HDTV and you can probably get your locals in HD to see what it's capable of doing.

not true in my case about the HD............ when i first upgraded to HD i cancelled the HD, i didn't pay the $10.00 a mo fee.so i had all HD equip but SD picture. left Direct for a year, and now i'm back with a much better deal. all new equip, hr34, one client, and love it. only paid $19.95 up front to come back and they paid my penalties to Dish.

:welcome to Satelliteguys Floorz!

supermod38, I'm guessing you are in an mpeg4 local market, because activating hd equipment has always requiring subbing to hd service unless you are in an mpeg4 local market.

You still have to activate it, if your in a HD Market or not ...
He's being charged or its activated one way or another, remember, if you do AutoPay, HD is free.

Yes, but to have hd equipment activated, you have to have hd on the account or be in an mpeg4 local market.

Correct ... thats why I think he has it activated already, just doesn't know it's there on the bill somewhere.

Or he's not watching HD ....

Or he's in an mpeg4 hd local market.

I went for two years with HD equip and not paying the HD fee!

now i get it because of the auto pay.

just sayin

Sooooo, I'm in an MPEG 4 market, I have HD recvrs, from what your saying, I don't have to pay the $10 p/m for HD fee ....

Thats what it sounds like your saying ...

If thats so, let me know how and I'll look into it, I would love a $10 p/m discount for HD.

Or I'd like a credit for the HD that I've had to pay for since they started charging extra for it.

sure you could drop the HD fee.....then the only channels you'd get in HD would be the locals. Everything else is in SD

In MPEG4 only markets you get a HD receiver because your locals are only in HD.

Exactly .... Thats what I'm trying to explain, if he's had HD all this time, he's had to have the HD FEE on the bill all along, whether it's been comp or not, it's there.

From his post above

so i had all HD equip but SD picture.

If you are in a MPEG4 market if you dont pay the $10 fee all you get in HD is the locals.
Now if you live in a market say Minneapolis and cancel the HD fee I assume you only get SD programming (even the locals)

New customers with auto pay still get free hd for life I think. If you are an existing customer, they have varying deals. Some get a year, some two. I don't think any current customers get it for life.

Back to the OP:
1. You might get HD free if you go on autopay (you can ask)
2. With SD, you won't necessarily get any better picture with an HD receiver using HDMI than you do on an SD receiver using composite video. The problem is that many HDTVs don't give a good picture on SD channels.
3. To get an HR24, you will have to get it from an online dealer like solid signal. If you gat an HD DVR from DirecTV, it could be any of the models.

what i did was called and cancelled the HD...............had HD equip for over two years and not paying the HD fee!

If you cancelled your hd subscription and you aren't in an mpeg4 market, they will want the hd equipment back.
