Hi guys, I have a slimline-3 dish, I've had a R-16 reciever dvr for 5 years, i wanted HD , and just got an HR-24 dvr reciever, after setting it up I get the dreaded 775 error. I can't figure out what's wrong. Do I need a new dish, an adapter, or b converter?

:welcome to Satelliteguys Cgstar!

775 error means the receiver/dvr isn't communicating with the dish. Do you have a swm setup? If so, is the power inserter connected correctly? Check all of your connections to be sure they are good.

I don't have a power inserter, but the connections are good. Someone told me the dish I have wouldn't receive hd , but I'm hoping that's not true.

I was wrong, not a slimline, will it work with hd receiver?

This is a very OLD dish, you really should upgrade to the SWM set up.

You should I believe be able to get HD from the 101 sat, which is the sat it should look at seeing it doesn't look at all 3/5 Sats like others.

Not sure whats left in HD on the 101, but I would think theres something.
Normally the HD is on the 99 or 103 Sats.

There's no HD on 101.....and the dish is an old 18in dish that will only get the 101 sat.
You need a slimline dish of some type, what's your zip code and are you looking to get any of the ethnic channels on the 119 satellite? Probably not, in which case you need a slimline dish preferably with the SWM-3 LNB, and an associated power inserter.
Where did the HR24 come from?

Thanks for elaborating ... adding more detail. :biggrin

I assume you are just using it for testing then. You won't be able to "transfer" it to your account.
If you are getting new service then why are you doing any of this, you should just be letting DirecTV do the installation?

Just to expand on this.
If you already have SD service, it's not a new account. The deal for adding an HD DVR (or replacing an SD DVR) will depend on your account standing with DirecTV. You can't add "someone else's" DVR unless it is "owned", which is pretty unlikely.
If you get new HD service, DirecTV will install the new dish. Where your current dish is located, there might not even be line of sight to the HD satellites.

Got it, thanks for the advice and tips, yes, I was just testing it, weird situation, just moved, I forgot I didn't include that. Of course I will get professional installation.

in case you had plans of putting the dish on that wall the picture is of, i dont think you'll be able to turn the dish far enough to actually get signal based on the fact that 18" one is nearly touching the wall.

Good point. The Slimline is much wider and the wall will prevent the dish from rotating far enough to the east. I think the mast sticks further out with the Slimline, but probably not far enough to help.
