Upgrade original Hopper to new UI issues

File this under "Be careful what you wish for." I manually upgraded one of my original Hoppers to the new UI last night, the other one will not upgrade. Seeking assistance to upgrade the second Hopper, Dish CSR tells me I can't upgrade UI, even though I proved to him I did... but I digress.

This new UI is slick, and I can see it has many useful new features. However, I'm totally lost and overwhelmed with this new learning curve challenge. For example, when I figured out how to access my EHDs, when I view one of the system generated folders (18 episodes of a program) I see options to view by "Season, Episode" or "Recorded Date". Not to be contrarian, I'd like to view the episodes in alphabetical order like I always did with the old UI. Anyone have a cheatsheet (for Dummies) that shows "To do 'X', now do 'Y'".

Just so you know, By tomorrow your 2nd Hopper will be upgraded to the New UI.
Its unavoidable now that 1 Hopper has it.
It will force an automatic update on the other Hopper.
And any Joeys you have as well.

If jpmarto is "overwhelmed with this new learning curve challenge" imagine the customer reaction when Dish releases the CUI to everyone. I hope they have extra phone reps on duty.

I posted this before. I am not looking forward to explaining the new CUI to my wife.

My wife and kids didn't blink after I upgraded it on ours. For 90% of customers, the only change is the color. All of the basic buttons and menus work the same.

To just say "ditto" is understating it so much. My wife is still nearly clueless about our Dish service - and we've had it for 18 years!

Please explain to me how this works: I used to be able to go DVR, look at the other DVR, and move around the folders to view what I wanted. Transferring recordings to the EHD was very easy. Here's screenshots of my "Family Room" Hopper from my "Living Room" Hopper. It says "This folder contains 5 recordings" and "No Events to Display" on the same screen. Really? Then, please tell me how to view events by A-Z instead of Date and Episode #.

I said for 90% of customers. You have 2 Hoppers - few customers do. You have an external hard drive - again, few customers do (even I don't).

Regarding the sort methods, the one you're looking for simply doesn't exist anymore. There is no finding it because it's different in the new UI.

Don't you just love "upgrades" that arbitrarily remove long-existing features? I mean, who would ever want to sort something in alphabetic order?

I'm still hoping someone will explain to me how to view contents of internal or external HD folders, then again, who would ever want to organize hundreds of files?...

I only checked quickly but there only appears to be (2) sort options - record date and something else that I've forgotten.

Well, Ok, here's another new UI "feature" I've found. The first screenshot is my "Living Room" Hopper, displaying the contents of its "Movies" folder. It is correct. The second screenshot is viewing the "Living Room" Hopper's "Movies" folder from my "Family Room" Hopper. Notice the subtle difference? The items displayed ARE partial contents of the "Family Room" Hopper's "Concerts" folder. So, it seems I either get "X" number of recordings with "Nothing to Display", or the correct number of recordings but completely bogus contents. Great. I want my old UI back.

Dish will have to swap out both of your Hoppers.
And even then, its only a matter of time before you'll get it again anyway.

There's no going back, it was said install at your own risk and don't expect dish support. This is just a stop gap update until they release the final update to everybody[if they ever do LOL]. You do know what SOON means right......

My favorite new 'feature' is the change of the # button from 'search' to 'help'. I've been using the search feature since I became a Dish customer 15 years ago....why would they just arbitrarily change it?

Echo Star seems to think they know what the public wants is the only explanation I can think of...

Maybe they feel it's time people use the button labeled "SEARCH" to, you know, search !

Honestly, I used to use the # key as well but it took me about 5 minutes to get over it. I will say, the Help is quite good.

My cousin is going to be sooooooo mad when we get upgraded since there is no more A-Z sorting ... I'm always giving him crap about how he sorts A-Z when I've always used "date recorded"

Any change going forward for anyone, to any of their H2k or HWS, even those on the old UI will result in the Carbon UI downloading, sorry but no option to get the old UI on a replacement box.
