I originally posted this in the main forum, but I think it got a little lost in the shuffle.

Ok, my current situation. New customer about two years ago and leased a 522 with a Dish 500. Last November I purchased a 942 (when I was unsuccessful in obtaining one to lease) only to have the 622 come out soon after. At that time I also returned the 522. I now want to upgrade to the 622 and a Dish 1000. What's the best way to do this?

Scenario #1 - pay $199 to Dish, get the $100 rebate plus $100 credit for returning the 942. I believe I would also get a Dish 1000 this way (as well as installation for the 1000), so cost $0. Cons are that I will be leasing again, will have an 18 month commitment, and it feels like I'm out quite a bit of $$$ on the 942.

Scenario #2 - purchase a 622 and Dish 1000 from a retailer - around $500 for 622 and $90 for the 1000. I'd probably still want the 1000 professionally installed (unless it's easier than I think it is). So, cost > $600. But this also allows me the opportunity to sell my 942 for at least $200 (seems to be average on eBay) plus no commitment or minimum programming packages.

Are there any other scenarios that I'm not thinking of? Right now I'm leaning toward Scenario #2, but am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Couldn't you lease the 622 for $199, get $100 in programming rebates for DishHD package, and get the free install on the Dish 1000? Net = $99 + 18 mth commit.

And then sell the 942 if you want.

I just did this, because I also purchased the 942 in November. But I have kept my 942, and use it to record mainly OTA HD and some MPEG-2 HD. After paying so much for the 942, less than a year ago, I couldn't sell it for $100-200. :(

Oh, good idea -- I didn't think about that option. That may be the best of both worlds. Thanks!

1. Local channels in HD over satellite
2. Additional HD channels like more Voom, HGTV-HD, Food, Universal, ESPN2, etc.
3. Output 1 modulated over the TV2 cable so you can feed both outputs to other TV's
4. More room for recording
5. Dish VOD (if you're into that kind of thing)

I'm sure there are other reasons. And, no, Dish isn't going to turn off HD for the 942 in the foreseeable future.

Is Dish using MPEG4?

Still Image Capture on 622
