Updated New Pricing Info

Actually I think that the 622 if leased, becomes your main receiver on your account and the 301 will get the extra receiver fee.

I got the vip 622 promotion with a mandatory commitment period, will I be hit with the FEB 1 price increases or will my charges stay the same for the 18 months commitment period.

Thanks
Jim

Your stuck with the price increases, whatever they bring us this year and next year if you are still your 18 month commitment. Either that or you could pay to get out of it which would cost you more.

I subscribe to HBO when there is original programming I want to watch - about half the time, and at $15 a month, it is worthwhile to remove it from my account when there is nothing on it I want to see.

The DVR Advantage with AT250 & HBO looked promising - but if I have to continue with HBO for the whole 12 months, then why not just get an Annual subscription for HBO as well and save $1.25 per month that way ?

The attraction would be to replace my 2nd receiver, a 501 with a 625 (or 622 for future HD screen), but the PDF file's most vague area is in terms of hardware, especially for existing customers.

You save more than the $1.25 per month you save $4 because of the combination of savings with AT120 DVR Advantage and you save $7 if you take the AT180 DVR Advantage. If you do the annual packages then you would save around 7-8% on your bill which equals out to be around the same amount of savings or slightly less but you would not have an 18 month commitment but you would have to pay for the year in advance. You might as well say you have a 12 month commitment since you CANNOT get a refund for your annual programming. You used to but not anymore.

When did they ever give a refund for unused annual programming? As for as I knew, they always refused any pro-rated refund if you cancelled service before the annual subscription was up. It was the trade-off for the meager savings of the annual subscription.

There's too much ambiguity on the DishDVR Advantage Pak (I know, as has already been stated). Currently I have a leased 622 and leased 211 w/DishHD Platinum/Locals.

After running the numbers, based on what I can discern at this point, it looks like if I drop Cinemax and keep HBO, Starz, and Show (I'd like to continue to receive the HD versions of these premiums) with the DishDVR AT250 Pak, I might save $1.06 each month, after taxes. If this is the case, I just have to decide if saving $12.72 a year is worth picking up the phone to change my programming package

Don't forget to factor in the $5 fee to downgrade your programming. Still, $7.72 is $7.72...

Actually they will let you out of it on sidegrading most of the time. For instance if you swap 1 movie package for another as long as your bill doesn't go down they will waive the fee.

The pendulum always swings and you can tell the character of a company (and those that control it) by what happens when the swing is in their direction.

Sometimes I can get them to waive the fee. Sometimes it aint worth all the time and hassle trying to get a $5 fee waived. When they try to charge the $14.95 advanced exchange fee or $19.95 for a remote replacement when you got a warranty I fight it and just tell them to shut it off if they are going to charge me for something that they gave me that was crap. That usually works. I even do this for my customers to try to save them that much. I know some that switched from Directv to Dish Network over a $20 smart card fee that was REFUSED to be waived.

They charge downgrade and sidegrade fees to prevent people from calling in and changing their programming packages everytime their favorite show or movie comes on as it costs them money everytime you talk to a CSR.

Ya, I don't think it makes much sense for me to go through all that hassle just to save a few bucks a year... If I was looking at saving $10-$15 a month, I'd certainly roll the dice.

Overall, I've had very good experiences with E* so, I'm not on a "down with Dish" rampage. They definitely seem to do their homework when implementing pricing structures, though.

SatGuys really is a great place, tons of resources and knowledgable folks who can lend perspective on decisions like this. Great info, many thanks.

I think the main problem Dish is facing with HD was that they had to sign an agreement to carry the VOOM channels to get the 61.5 slot and satellite from VOOM. Now we are paying for it by having a $20 HD package vs a $5 one. They probably have a minimum revenue guarantee on the VOOM package and making it a la carte would cause too many people to drop the VOOM and they would get stuck with the bill. Who would drop VOOM for $10-$15/month savings?

They did not have to sign any agreement. They were seperate deals. They Agreed to buy the 61.5 frequencies and satellite first. A seperate deal was set up to later to carry Voom

It is true that some of those, including the founding Dolan, agreed to drop objections to the deal before the FCC once the second deal was signed.
