Exactly, Read my Post, I'm waiting for the same answer. It appears you and I are the only ones that are seeing an INCREASE. According to what Scott wrote.
I'm Calling Dish Network right now.

The sad part is that we do this every year. Every year there is ranting and raving about switching or leaving Dish.

Unfortuately most alternatives are higher than Dish... just like every year.

In Cincy Time Warner is a total joke and DirecTV is just slightly less for same programming.

If anything.... Dish learned from TW and are now charing 17 bucks for an HD box. TW does the same but its like 20 bucks by the time you get through all the nickel and dimes. At least Dish isn't claiming FREE HD like TW.... yet.

Charlie isnt dumb. He just raises prices just a little behind the curve. Go ahead and check out the alternatives. They are jumping up as well.

The big jumps are coming from the Big 4 networks now wanting fees to carry their programming to the cable companies. Fox just got a big chunck from TW and the rest of them are are expected to follow suit.

Im not defending Dish.... the increase REALLY stinks... Just hope Dish doesn't get any bright ideas and takes away my HD Absolute!!!!!!

The only problem with that solution is that the Netflix streaming movies ARE NOT HD PQ, more like average DVDs. So, unless you really work the mail quickly, you essentially get to see one Netflix HD movie per week when the BD arrives. In addition, many users of Netflix streaming video complain of download breakups if their internet service isn't at least 10 Mbs. Perhaps when streaming video becomes more technically mature, this option will be real competition to the premium movie channels in HD.

10 megabits? Far from it... My parents have a Roku for Netflix, and only get 3 megabit downloads. No rebuffers or breakups at all. They don't pull the HD quality since it is only 3 though. A 5 megabit connection for HD quality would work just fine.

I really wish the $5 phone line discount was still there. What will be interesting is the yearly locked in price since we still have about 6 months left of the $15 discount. I am stumped about what having phone line plugged in will do... (with exception of seeing Caller ID...LOL)

hard to figure out the math on this, but seems like I might be getting jacked at least $10 a month extra starting 2/1. That would suck as my setup is standard def and pretty basic packages as it is.

Your English must be different than mine. There is no DVR fee per RECEIVER, just one per account, or household. Then you pay the applicable RECEIVER fee(s) after 1st free one. Don't know where you are getting confused. You can try to substantiate the Receiver fees all you want. Won't make any difference. You'll be charged according to which extra receivers you have. What a lot of people are not doing is backing out current lease and receiver fees before adding the new ones on.

I believe the point is that, if the DVR fee is separate and only one per account, why is there a price difference in the RECEIVER fees between basic and DVR receivers? DishNet is still charging more for the DVR units than they are for the standard units, and this price difference is PER DVR.

Here is some stuff that was sent out to Dish employees from Dish corporate...

On 2/1, we are modifying our monthly equipment fees. Currently a receiver can have as many as three fees: an Additional Outlet fee, a DVR Service fee, and a TV2 Receiver Connection fee. Going forward, each receiver will only have one monthly fee.

Different receiver families will have different monthly fees depending upon the features included in the receiver. This is similar to how cable companies charge for their receivers, and thus many households should be familiar with this concept. As a result of the above changes, all customers will see the same exact fees on their bills for receivers.

Then later on we have this...

Charge for DVR Service

Currently all DVRs on an account are charged a $5.98 DVR Service fee. As of 2/1, the $5.98 DVR Service fee for each additional receiver beyond the first will be eliminated. The DVR Service fee will become a $6 account-level fee. This is great news for customers with multiple DVRs because regardless of how many DVRs are on the account there will only be one DVR Service fee.

The account-level DVR Service fee will be $10 rather than $6 for accounts with active HD Duo DVR SlingLoaded receivers.

DVRs will no longer be included as part of America’s “Everything” Pak or Latino “Everything” Pak. As such, these customers will now see a separate DVR Service fee.
The DVR/Locals bundle package (formerly DDA) is no longer available.
With these changes DVRs will be treated identically across all customer accounts.

And then we have this...

Charge for Second TV

As you know, DISH is unique in offering receivers that can drive two TVs. Today we charge for the second TV on a two TV receiver in the form of a TV2 Receiver Connection fee. We waive the TV2 Receiver Connection fee if the receiver is connected to a phone line or broadband connection. Going forward we will no longer provide a credit for being connected. All customers will be paying for the second TVs on a two TV receiver in the form of the fees shown in the above table.

Note: Although we are making this change, it will become more important to DISH Network’s future than ever for customers to connect their receivers to broadband or phone lines.

As I reported a few weeks ago the receiver pricing is accurate. Dish is trying to simplify things as currently a receiver can have as many as three fees: an Additional Outlet fee, a DVR Service fee, and a TV2 Receiver Connection fee. as of February 1st, each receiver will only have one monthly fee.



As I mentioned before Dish is doing away with the $5.98 per DVR fee, there will now be one $6 DVR fee which covers all DVR fees on your account.

If you have two HD DVR's you are currently paying $17.00 (you are probably forgetting the $5.00 "with DVR" add on to your programming package which will go away). After the change, $23.00, or $6.00 more than you do now.

I'm still confused with this statement. We'll get hit with the TV2 fee now so what advantage could we possibly have with having the receiver connected to the phone line or broadband?

I think this is the key to this whole equipment price increase. I'll wait and see what their plans are for receivers with two tuners. As of today, my bill goes up $11.00 but I'll wait until the official announcement is made.
