Updated DirecTV HD Locals Launch Schedule: November->March (And PBS Launches)

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

Augusta GA
WAGT Ch 26 (NBC) HD

It doesn't seem like it would be that big of an issue for states with statewide PBS affiliates like Georgia and Alabama, particularly when they have all of the DMAs in those states.

Here's a semi related question....

is either provider (DirecTV or Dish Network) ever going to add locals.... even if only in standard definition to those who don't have them?

I can understand adding hd versions to existing markets being a priority, but I can't remember the last time I heard of either one adding 'new' locals to an area.

That's the only thing I miss from Dish Network as the locals here in Joplin, Mo are on Dish.

I've got an am21.. but can't get a good signal on fox or cbs regardless of how hard I try.

Has anyone heard anything about DirecTv expanding their number of markets that can get local channels at all?

quick edit:

Dish Network is dominant in this area... for every one or two DirecTV dishes.... there are 'at least' 15 to 20 Dish Network dishes... I stress the at least aspect.. it's honestly not even close.

Having had both DirecTV now... and Dish prior, I feel Direc offers the better overall product and I'm willing to bet some people would be willing to switch if locals were on Directv.

Here's hoping that happens in the next year or so.

Well

The thing is I used to live in MASS and have been to Maine a few times. There is not a lot up there and for them to be getting HD before Roanoke/lynchberg is just crazy.
