Unknown module in top usb port?? Hopper w/sling

Just got a replacement for a defective hopper w/sling. On rear panel there is some sort of device installed on the replacement that was not present on the original. It is installed in the top usb port but there is no reference to this device in any paperwork that came with the replacement. Anyone know what this is?
