UFL 2009 Season

I wonder what kind of steroid testing program they'll have, if anything... look at the arms on David Boston, heh.

Tryouts in Orlando last week had the following peeps among the group of 'hopefuls':

QBs Quinn Gray, Brett Deitz, Chris Griesen, Danny Wimprine... WRs David Boston, Travis Taylor, Reche Caldwell, Bobby Sippio... TE Jermaine Wiggins, C Alonza Ephraim, RB LaBrandon Toefield, DBs Oliver Celestin, Curtis Deloatch, LB Maurice Crum Jr (paraphrased from UFL Access Week in Review: Orlando Edition | United Football League (UFL) news, opinion, and discussion - UFLAccess.com)

Tryouts in Vegas this week.

Was a big fan of Bobby Sippio when he was a Chief, but he got more airtime on Hard Knocks than he did on Sundays.

ARGHHHHHH! I never ever want to see him or his bug eyes on a football field again. His stone hands absolutely killed the Pats in the 2006 AFC Championship game.:mad:

I think there is enough interest in pro football that a secondary league could actually be successful if done properly. I'm glad to see the UFL proceeding, though I don't know if midweek games and a fall schedule are idea. Also, only 4 teams is pretty small.

I actually like the odds of the (new) USFL or AAFL -- if either can actually get in gear and play -- better. A weekend, spring football league would likely do better IMHO as it wouldn't have to compete with either pro or college. The (old) USFL actually did perfectly fine while it was in the spring, it just got killed when it went head to head with the NFL in the fall.

From UFLAccess... Former 1st Round Quarterback J.P. Losman Rumored to be Heading to Las Vegas | United Football League (UFL) news, opinion, and discussion - UFLAccess.com

Rumors have heated up regarding player movement to the United Football League in recent days. Sunday former NFL QB Tim Rattay said he would be headed to the league, Ken Dorsey said he’d love the opportunity, and rumors have spread that Michael Vick and his agent have papers in hand that if signed would start the Vick redemption tour in Orlando. All of these whispers, some of which are based in fact, have begun spreading in the wake of two public workouts and ahead of a private, internal UFL draft that is scheduled for later this week.

I hope the UFL succeeds as a minor league. Many cities have the population to support a local team; but I fail to see how they can make it in N.Y., with both the Giants and Jets, and to a lesser extent in San Francisco.

I can count on one hand how many of those names I recognize.

I imagine we'll all recognize the QBs when they're allocated in a week or two. Point isn't to have recognizable players, it's to establish a workable league and then evolve it from there. I don't even watch college football and recognize a guy or two (like Brian Johnson) in addition to some of the former NFL players.

I wonder if Donte Stallworth will come play, lol.

If you're genuinely interested in who the relative wheat and the chaff is on the list, here's some analysis - http://uflaccess.com/ufl/ufla-analysis-the-inaugural-player-selections/#more-1101

Seems interesting. I'm sure I'll put it on a few times as nothing else is on Thursday nights.

Rumored franchise names... sound like Rollerderby names, not Football teams. /shrug.

Orlando Tuskers
San Francisco Rockfish
Las Vegas Locomotives
New York Sentinels

Also was an article out recently about Simeon Rice possibly joining one of the teams.

Here's a thing about the 10 'most well known' UFL players - 2. QB Tim Rattay, UFL San Francisco | The UFL's Top 10 Most Well-Known Players

From PFT, NY announced 19 players signed -

Notable names include tight end T.J. Cottrell (the son of head coach Ted Cottrell), former NFL quarterback Quinn Gray, former Utah quarterback Brian Johnson, and former NFL running back Cecil Sapp.

Missing from the list is former NFL defensive end Simeon Rice, who reportedly has been negotiating with the team that will begin playing games in October 2009.

Yankee PA announcer Bob Sheppard to retire

I don't want playoffs in college football
