Same thing happened to me.Strange thing - my Hopper3 started the update (got the usual "downloading..." window, etc). When I came back to check on it, the Hopper was in Standby mode - I went the diagnostics screen to check the version and it was still on 517. I tried forcing the update again and now it tells me that 517 is the "latest software". Did they change their mind?
Be interesting to find out if they might have pulled it for some reason.Same thing happened to me.
Wonder if this does anything for two Hopper 3s being able to work together.
The EHD fix will be nice - I wondered at one time if the problem was with my particular drive.Yes it does. This update fixes the Hopper to Hopper DVR trick plays and it also fixes the old problem with EHD's spinning up correctly and not playing something on the first try.
Hallelujah!!!!!!! That H3 to H3 playback matter was a big PITA! I await the download; I don't want to force the download it before I hear more from those about what things this update BROKE.Yes it does. I've been having problems off-and-on all day - ever since the update started this morning, and then failed....I couldn't get video on any of the Joeys - I could see guide info and other text, but no picture or sound. Very strange. Rebooted everything with no success. I finally unplugged the H3 for a bit, restarted it and now everything seems to be working again. Not sure what that was all about but I'm in no hurry to see this thing try to update itself again ......Hallelujah!!!!!!! That H3 to H3 playback matter was a big PITA! How long did you wait before checking on it? On both my Wally and Hopper Duo, I have seen them briefly go back to the regular screen-saver in the middle of a download, before resuming the download. So, it is important to actually watch the download progress, and make sure that the progress bar goes all the way across. In other words, it is possible that you interrupted it in the middle of the download. Additionally, on a Hopper, even when it looks like the download is done, it is important to leave it in standby for at least another half-hour or so, to make sure that it also downloads the Joey software, etc.Strange thing - my Hopper3 started the update (got the usual "downloading..." window, etc). When I went into the 'Tools' setup and selected to download the new software, the receiver downloaded software, and the progress bar went slowly all the way up to 100%. Then the receiver booted up. Although it went through all of the motions as if it had downloaded and installed new firmware, when I checked, I still had U249 and not the new U700. This same thing has happened to me many times before.
I am pretty sure that you cannot download new firmware unless your receiver is on Dish's list of receivers that are eligible to receive the new firmware. This is so that Dish can control the number of receivers that get new software and see if there are problems before releasing it to everybody. Just because some people have the new firmware does not mean that you can download it to your receiver. Forcing the download will only work IF your receiver is 'on the list' of receivers that are authorized to get the new software
That makes since but it sure wasn't that way when I had four HWSs. I had the HWSs for four years and always got the software update on day one. I got my HWSs when they first came out. I didn't get my Hopper 3s until they were out about a year and a half because I was waiting for the DPH42 switch. I just thought the list was made up by who got their DVRs first and so on.Yes, I think Dish does change your receiver's position on the list, so that the same people are not the guinea pigs for the new software. When U249 was released, I was among the first to get it, however, most of the time, I do not get the new release (and cannot download it) for a few weeks (or longer if there were serous problems).
