Trying to do my homework before switching to Dish

Thanks for the clarification on the wired/wireless joeys. And also for the info about activating/deactivating a Joey.

I spent a couple of hours last night educating myself about all things firestick and about the Dish app. Looks like a Firestick 4k paired with the app would reasonable solution in the spare bedroom. Cheaper than a wired J3 - $25 vs $70. What functionality would I lose if I opt for the Firestick? Would guests still be able to play back content recorded on the H3?
You really don't lose any functionality. the DA App can access your DVR, your Program guide, On Demand and all the apps that are on the Hopper can be downloaded onto the Firestick. The only thing is you can only stream DA one at a time, so if someone is using the Firestick to watch Dish Anywhere, no one else can at the same time

Don’t want to move my bedroom box to the spare room during those weeks, I need the bedroom TV as an escape. ;)

Yes. You would log in on your account on that Firestick, and then let them have the use of it. I think they could mess up your recordings though, e.g. if they delete a program you intended to keep.

Hoppers have a Trash can from which you can retrieve deleted items for about 2 days after they were deleted. :)

But first you have to remember what's missing among hundreds of recordings. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time spotting what's missing in a very long list.

Yea, I can see where that would definitely be a problem. I have at least one Hopper 3 that I keep everybody else away from. :)

Dish is really nice to watch when there's one of the new C8s parked in the garage too. :biggrin I wish I knew by experience, but I'm just guessing. ..pretty sure most would agree though.

Serendipitous arrival of a Dish $300 gift card offer in yesterday’s mail. From years active on the DTv/ATT forums, I know their version of this offer is potholed with catches and exclusions. Any pitfalls I should be aware of with this offer?
I’m guessing my local retailer can hold my hand through the redemption process. Will I still be able to choose an H3 and J3 or do these offers require base equipment? Couldn’t get much out of the small print on the offer - but I think that’s the idea...

Just give the LOCAL retailer the code from the $300 Gift Card offer when you order and you'll be all set.

Your best bet is to always go through the number or other contact information listed on the flyer if you get an offer like this that you want to redeem. Sometimes retailers will send out offers that Dish has no way of redeeming. Retailers may have other offers to add instead of that one, or they may not know how to redeem the offer.

After you get the account set up, if you want us to check and see if the code was applied properly, you can contact us here.

Yea and if you get an offer in the mail from 'Big Mike' who will charge you extra activation fees and send the lowest bidder to your house to do the install you probably shouldn't call that number.

If you have a good LOCAL retailer you should always contact them first. If by some odd wierd chance they can't at least match the offer then you could take your chances.

The $300 Gift Card offer from Dish is easily redeemable by your LOCAL retailer, just give them the code from the offer.

Whatever channels they are in dispute with this month
