Trouble installing DTV Dish Please Help

Hello,

I recently purchased a new KAKU Slimeline dish and cannot get it working. I have been trying for 3 days and am frustrated. I am using a cheap little 10$ satellite signal meter which seems to pick up 2 very strong signals when I point towards the DTV Satellites. However even with the strong signal, I continue to get all zeros when I check all 5 satellites on my new H24-100 receiver. I am only hooking up one reciever, do I need a multiswitch just for one receiver? Also, looking a the lnb there are 4 ports which means it is not a swm system so I know that I don't need a separate power supply. I know its not a tree issue as there no trees anywhere nearby. Possibly a bad LNB maybe? Thanks to anyone that can answer this.

How many lines are going into your receiver? Do you have BBCs connected at the receiver?

You need to get a compass and make sure you are aiming to the correct heading. I simply use a compass and the receiver's built-in meter and takes about 15 - 20 mins. That mast best be dead on level & plumb. What heading are you aiming for?

Please post the transponder signal levels on the satellites that you have.
I suspect that you may be aimed at the wrong satellite.

Thats what I was thinking .... the simple sat finders show a HIGH signal when ever they find a sat, not necessarily a D* sat. you could be close or way off.

I use to have one of them when I started, but quickly gave it up.

I've never used a hand held meter. The signal strength meter built into the directv box works fine.

If your using less than 4 tuners, no MS required.

Here's how I would do this.

First. go here : Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com

or just use your box and get all your settings. you can input your zipcode.

Setup your dish according to your findings.

Take the box, a small tv (13"), and enough extension cord to reach your dish. Power everything up, get to satellite strength screen and setup the dish like that method.

Is the mounting pole level?
I would try to find the 101 sat first, and then try to tune in the others.
Like some of the other posters said, the sat meters will easily pick up other satellites.

A buddy was trying to aim a single sat 18" dish once and kept getting other satellites with his meter, it drove him crazy.

Make sure you have the BBC if you are using an old style 4 port Slim Line LNB...When you hook the BBC up you should have the 99 and 103 satellite. I was under the impression that the HR24 and H24 did not need the BBC's connected which ever LNB you utilized, I found that out to be dead wrong. Yesterday I had a HD + INT install.I have been installing dishes for about 24 years and find I learn more from experience than anything else.....I couldn't for the life of me , figure out why my HD satellites were not being noticed, I went back through the satellite set-up and whalla, right there on the screen, it stated BBc's are required...It would be nice if the retailers I install for would send the correct equipment for the install. Having stuff drop shipped makes me use a lot of my own parts to get customers up and going correctly......

With that signal meter you are using, you need to aim the dish with the sensitivity all the way up, when you peak a satellite turn down the sensitivity until the you lose the signal, fine tune until you peak the meter again, repeat this until you can no longer see the needle peaking...It will usually take about 6 or so fine tuning adjustments and you should be on the correct satellites if your mast is plumb and level...

I'm going to try a b-band converter, that is probably why its not working.

I have already tried bringing the tv up on the roof and I have no problem using a compass for those that are wondering.
