Can anyone here still read and comprehend? What are you talking about? What I posted is fact and what transpired, what "facts" don't Dish fans like? Since then Tribune has countered with their proposal which I would have posted had I seen it but it appears they had not made it or at least that it was known they had when I posted. Further, has DISH said they don't want to do that??
The fact that it's an extremely good possibility that these disputes are more Charlie than the networks.
Something no one wants to accept.
You all think he's doing us a favor, I don't.
Hes doing himself a favor, and takes advantage of us in the process by sticking his customers on the front lines what seems monthly basis.
These disputes can be reached months ahead of their blackout dates, but aren't because only the Networks don't want to deal?

Charles just got a smaller Bill by not paying Tribune and now NFL.
But yet he's still raking in all our payments.
You are still paying for channels you don't have, and contracts that don't exist.
So if this dispute last 2 months, that's huge revenue for Charlie.
Unless all 13.7 million customers demand a $5 discount, and he know damn well he's not doing that.
He's found a fool proof system that works.
Periodically let contracts expire, or don't agree on a deal.
You don't pay out for a contract, and you keep bringing in 90% or Higher of the same profit free and clear, because he knows customers will most likely tough it out for a minimum of 30 days or longer in hopes the dropped networks will come back, with the ETF ball and chain securely attached it's just another security feature to assure your not going anywhere .

Still no real answer? I posted what DISH proposed (with no opinion involved) and someone posted what Tribune proposed apparently after I posted. What "facts" are involved that a DISH fan doesn't want to read?
If they were going to do that, they wouldn't have spent many, many, many millions of dollars on having Echostar 18 built and launched tomorrow for the 61.5 orbital slot.

I see it this way. Lets say you are correct Troch. Charlie gets 1 month of benefit. But lets say that Tribune raises the rates $0.05 and that is for 3 years... Charlie really is not the benefactor there. Charlie is not a short game kind of guy. Look at each of his last business moves, they are all long term. Why would this be different? And the difference in paying for antenna's, and issuing credits, and those "long term loyal" subscribers cancelling, do you really think it is worth it then?
Well normally I would think so, But I'm not so sure that really means anything .
Directv launched Spaceway 1 and 2 for Broadband services, and well that never got used for that.

Huh, interesting, I assumed that all markets were fed to the POP in that market via fibre. I can't believe that in a market as big as San Francisco they don't have a fibre feed. Evidently they are fibre fed in Birmingham, because they look as good or better than OTA (on most). I have also "moved" to get Atlanta locals (can't get them OTA) and they look really good too, but I can't say how they are OTA.
Those birds were built for Hughes, they were acquired by DirecTV and they are used (or were, may be out of commission now this was 2006) for their first Ka-Band satellites to transmit HD, I think they had spotbeams and were/are used for locals.
Dish makes much more off of a DBS subscriber than a Sling subscriber. Dish DBS is the preferred method (profit wise) for Dish Network, but they'd rather a cord-cutter go with Sling than any other streaming service.
When the deal is done Chad , remember and it is as you say $.50 per subscriber, He's just going to raise you $3 to $5 again per month.
And the antenna and the allowed credits, that's peanuts.
Since judging by the RCA antenna and Sling TV all over the box, my guess that's a business deal with RCA. Probably didn't cost a Dime.
If anything it promotes the use of more RCA antenna and Sling TV.
And credits, not everyone gets them Dish tells people no.

Then please explain why Charlie offered a true up extension, turned down by Tribune? Tribune would not have lost a penny, Customers would not have lost the channels, Dish would have paid whats agreed upon. And this was offered by Charlie....
You have no idea that was even offered,and you don't even know what else was said in that process.

If Dish doesn't allow this, we'll that's means they are hiding something.
I bet dish will strike a deal before he sits down with the FCC when it's not in his favor.

Why is Dish demanding that they go to arbitration? Can play that game around in circles, but your feelings of Charlie, are not always correct. The facts have been presented, only one company had something to gain in the long term, and that is Tribune. Everything else is a business move on both sides.
In fairness DISH would have reduced incentive to settle in that scenario.
More importantly it is the first time (that I can recall) the programmer wants the FCC involved in the negotiations. So it tells me Tribune does perceive that DISH is not negotiating in good faith they probably are not just saying that for public consumption.
That however does not mean in reality DISH is or is not because we also don't know what Tribune has been saying inside the negotiations and DISH also feels Tribune has not been negotiating in good faith thus DISH did first ask for a binding arbitrator.

But one small thing.
If Dish doesn't go to the FCC , that would show Guilt IMO.
