That's the offer. Three months of HBO and MAX for free in place of Starz. Seems like a good deal other than the remaining Starz package runs for almost 4 more months. It doesn't say how long the offer will last. Everybody jumping om board?

I noticed it on the website last week.. I realized I didn't really watch that much Stars and I was paying for HBO.. So I first cancelled HBO.. Then did the switch.. It does say that you can not switch back..

I did the switch almost 2 weeks ago, I believe it said that if you switch, the deal still lasts until 1/31/12, just as it would've if you stuck with Starz.

If you switch read the fine print. The HBO/Cinemax combo does not roll off your account like Starz will at the end of promotion. You will need to cancel.

I did this last night. The confirmation showed my start and end date for free HBO and Cinemax...exactly 3 months. So yes, you will more or less lose that 4th month you would have still had by sticking with Stars.

BUT...you have until late October to decide if you want to take the deal, so you could wait until the last day to start the promo - then you're not really losing any overall promo time. Had I known that, I probably would have waited a few weeks...at least until baseball was done (currently eating up most of my free time).

Where did you all see this offer, and is it only for the ones that got free Starz for the year?

I may be stuck because I ended up with the free Encore package instead of Starz for the year. (Had a trial of Starz going right when they announced the anniversary deal, hence getting Encore instead)

When you log in to your account, it's on the left side.

There's a link that says "Get 30th Anniversary Trade-In".

But I have the one year free Starz though. I don't know if it applies if you ended up with Encore.

I got an email from Dish last night and finally decided to do it. (We've had HBO and/or Cinemax numerous times in the past and never stick with it for long). Starz has been fine, but I wouldn't pay for it. Our kids, thought, watch a lot more movies than we do and might like it. -Jan

So if I want to maximize my free stuff, I should wait to 10/31 to switch right? The wording is a little ambiguous and I don't know how dish will handle the part of a month.

We hope you have been enjoying your 30th Anniversary Starz programming. This offer is scheduled to continue through 1/31/12, at which time it will be removed from your account.

Oh well...I don't see anything like that when I log in.

i think we all should be able to trade our free gift. should be for those who have the encore and platinum too

Agreed!

If I took the deal, that's what I probably would do. Trade it on October 31 and then remove HBO and Cinemax on January 30, so you would have only sacrificed one day of free Starz.

I got the same offer and decided to go with it. I have had Starz since the offer early this year and it would have continued until the end of January. For the last six months the only new programming was an occasional movie on Saturday night. Starz was a seven channel system, five in HD and two in SD(1 with both east and west HD feeds). Looking at HBO and Max there is more programming than on Starz plus a total of twelve channels with ten in HD (3 are both east and west HD feeds). Just looking at the Guide there are more programs on HBO and Max that have my interest.

Even loosing the last month of programming the choices make it a good swap. When I signed up there was a caution that if you did not cancel at the end of the offer you will automatically be charged on a month to month basis, $16 for HBO and $13 for Max. There is a link on the sign up page to cancel at the end of the offer period that becomes active once you switch.
The additional channels plus different programming with a DVR system makes it a GREAT deal for me.

Nice. I just signed up online and my TV scree prompted me to unplug my 722 and reboot. When it came back on I no longer had any of my HD channels. Now I'm rebooting again then I h=guess I'll have to call Dish. What fun.
