Toshiba 50H81 issue

I dont know whats the problem
the 4x3 area of the tv picture screen is like darken and a bit fuzzy..

does anyone know what could this be ?

Watching too much 4:3 content wore the CRTs out in that area? It is hard to say

Pull the screen off. Clean the back of the screen, mirror and surface of picture tubes. Use a flashlight and shine into the picture tubes. If there is burn-in you will be able to see it on the surface of the tube. Good Luck.

any advice or links on how to best go about doing this.we have never cleaned ours either,and its going on 4yrs old. thankfully no problems as yet.

Now the tv crapped out completely unwatchable the red color is completely out of wack i called the Tv technican and he checked Toshiba and they no longer make the tubes for the tv no more..
Time for a new tv i guess..

it most likely isnt the tube...it is the convergence ICs...
figure 225-300 for in home repair.
