Too HOTT!!

I will tell my 222k the next time the 4th MT2 goes out in 6 months that it is "dwelling on OLD info" and that whatchel1 says so.
So did you replace the 222k or just the MT2? This sounds like an isolated problem. As in you are one of the few to have this problem. If you've replaced both and it has happened more than once then it is sounding like you have power problem in your house.

I agree. But you know who won't!;)

Is ANYONE (besides r10fret) experiencing heat problems where the MT2 unit is anything more than warm to the touch?

If ANYONE (besides r10fret) is experiencing 222k overheating problems and the solution is to remove the MT2 unit, please raise your hand.

I have a 222k with the ota module. Few days ago i noticed that i was not receiving all my ota channels. Everything checked out okay with the antennas and amps. So i disconnected from the module and connected directly to the tv. All my channels returned with good signal strength. I checked the receiver and it was rather warm on the module side. So i have removed the module and receiver is definitely cooler to the touch.

Anybody else have a module to go bad?

I haven't but they have had some of the modules go bad.

I remember several years ago when DVR's first came out, I used to run my 508 receiver with the cover completely removed.

The fan on the receiver was too loud for the bedroom, so I removed the cover, disabled the fan.

I let the heat radiate off of the unit, and it actually worked pretty good!

I had a Tivo I did that to also that was running too hot after I upgraded the hard drives. After going through 2 sets of drives, I ran it without the cover never to have an issue again.

We'll put you down for "the receiver was rather warm on the module side."

knotle,

Could you please post a picture of the module and the location of the bulging cap, I would like to see if it is the same situation on mine, we both have 222k with the MT2. I suspect it is related to the ch3/4 modulator which cannot be switched off in the menu on the 222k.

I took the module to my son who is the electronics instructor at the local technical college. The capacitor that i thought may be the problem checked out okay. He is going to look further to see if he can diagnose the problem.

The OP waqs reporting a problem with his 722 - not a 722k - and thus no MT-2 module involved.

Now we have a hijacked thread furthering r10fret's agenda of blaming problems on heat from MT-2 modules - this in the face of many, many posters saying that their MT-2 is at best warm to the touch - and virtually no one else reporting an MT-2 unit that felt hot! (To compound matters, it is suggested that the CH 3-4 modulator is the culprit - this a device that puts out micro-watts under load and much less when not used.)

Anyone else beside r10fret out there having an MT-2 unit that feels hot?

Saltidawg, So what to do then, disbelieve everything r10fret says. Good, how about you (KAB & whatchel too) just ignore this thread, several people have commented about their MT2 being cool or hot, so what! If the problem doesn't affect you then go on your way, that does not mean the problem isn't real. Don't follow every post I make trying to convince me what to think, Who are you to tell me my MT2 isn't hot and has not failed 4 times? Mind your own business and don't tell me or anyone else what to think.

You have hijacked this thread - the OP had a problem on a 722 not a 722k.

Who else is reporting a hot MT2? You telling anyone to "Mind your own business" is the height of absurdity... you continually hijack threads and post untruths and distortions for reasons completely unknown to the rational posters that attempt to solve problems here.

Give us a list of persons that have MT2 units that are HOT and are having problems? Give us any basis what so ever for an unused output on an MT2 causing any problem.

I suspect that you will not be answering either of those questions, but we can hope.

Yes you sure have,

It's kinda ironic actually.

MT2 in 222k are hot.
I think that there is a language problem here.

The OP said, "Vip722, not the k version."

Thus all your superfluous material about the MT2 is a hijack of this thread.

You were asked, "Give us a list of persons that have MT2 units that are HOT and are having problems? Give us any basis what so ever for an unused output on an MT2 causing any problem."

You were also asked, "Who else is reporting a hot MT2?"

(I did try above to get you some help.... "Is ANYONE (besides r10fret) experiencing heat problems where the MT2 unit is anything more than warm to the touch?

If ANYONE (besides r10fret) is experiencing 222k overheating problems and the solution is to remove the MT2 unit, please raise your hand." )

You simply continue to post attacks and divert various threads from attempts to get help to your agenda of a totally baseless suggestion that an unused CH3/4 modulator delivering no signal that is at best warm to the touch is somehow causing a problem that no one else can replicate.

I'll drop it now with my apologies to the other posters here. You may want to consider limiting your continued campaign on supposed MT2 overheating issues to threads not on other subjects. :)

knotle,

Here is a new thread I just started about the 222k and MT2
...

That should bring out the skeptics again!

Actually, what I suspect it will not bring out is anyone reporting a problem with their MT2 being "HOTT" (sic) and causing any receiver problem.

You must own stock in the module company. I am posting about what i am experiencing with my 222k and module. I installed the module about 6 months ago and it performed fine until about a week ago. Now it may be as simple as the module going bad or it could be something else. That is why i am checking it out.

I have repeatedly asked you if it is your MT2 module itself that is hot to the touch. OR is it your receiver that is running hot, temperature wise.

Would you answer that simple question instead of attempting sarcasm? Who knows, you might get some help. lol

It was the module itself. After removing it, the receiver is not even warm on the module side. Before, it was rather warm to the touch after the module begin acting up.
