Then there is the "dead Pinto" trick. Tow a dead Pinto, K car or other ride into a good LOS position.
Bolt the mast to the roof.
Complete the rest of the FREE basic installation...tune the dish, activate and enjoy.

OK now that we got that out of the way I need some info on your pole. Mine will be next to the house buy not that high, maybe 5' at the most. Also what is your OD on your pole? It looks like you have another piece of pipe slipped over it? Was that to make it a 2"OD pipe?

The AU9 is mounted on a standard D* 2" mounting pole....then it slides INSIDE the heavy duty pipe galvanized 2 1/2" ( but be sure to check this) which provides a firm fit. The screw which holds the cross brace in place is long enough to go all the way through both the 2 1/2 and into the 2" pipe which holds the dish very firmly. We have had winds well over 65 mph over the past 2 years and have had no dish movement at all. (you could also put a bolt all the way through both poles if you wanted to) If there are any other questions, just yell....

I'm not sure, but it could be a coupler to put two pieces together

I know some folks with ground floor apts who used very very large buckets filled with concrete with post in center-- they put large rocks also around to help it out.

They put the whole bucket into the ground in the spring.
They were in montana and didn't want to try and dig out snow and mix up the concrete in the winter.

Sounded a little risky to me but they said it worked.

People have been using the concrete bucket deal for years, but mostly for the 1 and 3 lnb set ups, not as large and heavy.
IF he can support the 5 lnb this could get him thru the winter to spring to when he feels more comfortable in planting his pole.

I am having DirecTV installed next week and I am trying to get ahead and have a pole mount ready for the installer. My question is, the tubing that I need to get should have a 2'' outside diameter, right? I am having a hard time finding it at a local hardware store, maybe Home Depot or Lowes has it.

Yes, 2" is the correct od. Try your local fence company. They should have it.

Thanks, I have found a local building supply that has some chain link fence poles, but they are 1 7/8'' or 2 5/16'' OD. Do you think that these would work?

You could use the 1 7/8", but it isn't the best solution. If you tighten the dish mount well and use a set screw through the base into the pole you should be okay. The 2 5/16" is too big.

I had the same problem in my area. I called everywhere and no one had a 2"OD pole. I called every fence place in my area. Man why didn't they just design this for a more accessible size. So I went with the 1 7/8 as have others and will drive a self tapper threw the mount into the pole when it's all set. I did buy a 14" piece of 1 7/8 ID muffler pipe which is exactly 2"OD and was going to slip it over and weld it on but I think I will just do the set screw instead as this will work fine.
