Tigers vs Cardinals in world series

Garland 8-3 5.37 vs
Robertson 8-5 3.36

Vazquez 9-4 5.07 vs
Bonderman 9-4 3.59

Contraras 9-1 3.48 vs
Rogers 11-4 4.10

The numbers pitching wise favor the Tigers, but I have learned you can not count either of these teams out till the last out is recorded.

You got it!

Personally, I do not have confidence in Robertson, he is hot and cold. He let's too much get to his head. If he get's on a roll right away, he get's it in his head he is un-stopable. If he gives up a couple of base hits, or a run early, he beats himself up, and the rest of the game is like sitting on pins and needles while he throws. This is the old Jeff Weaver case. He used to get pissed at himself if he would give up a few base hits, and it was over for him.

Roller Coaster Jones is what I call him too! He seemingly needs to put two to three runners on with less than two outs in a save oppertunity. I don't understand why, he comes in, walks one, then gives up a base hit, then will walk another, and in-field pop up the last two. I guess we have no choice but to ride that as long as we can.

Zumaya will hold us over though! :D

I think Leyland and the pitching coach have made great strides with Robertson, Unfortunatly the Sox won't see Verlander, he's the best they have...
Zoom Zoom has had times where he has struggled lately, hopefully he's over that.
Hopefully if it comes to a save situation, Zumaya will get that oppertunity as well and Rodney too........... Maybe we won't need Jones too much, I like Jones, he's just a roller coaster and I will have 3 nights to maybe see it. I don't know if I can handle it....

btw, lets hope we have 3 save situations, that would be a step in the right direction.

This is a must win series for Chicago. A sweep by the Tigers would make it very hard for the Sox to make it up. Either way, we still leave in first.
It's not a "must win" series for anybody. It's a pretty important series, but they have three more series against each other. And what, two months left in the season?

I don't mean to pick on you -- it's just that this is sort of a pet peeve of mine. Must win means you must win or you're done, right? I've heard it thrown around the NFL as early as week four, which is just ridiculous. I mean, really, the White Sox could lose all three by a combined score of 45-0, but they'd still have a lot of games to make up the 7.5 they'd be down -- including ten more games against the Tigers.
I blame TV guys for this. They started referring to important games as "must-win" as a way of luring more viewers in. Apparently it worked, because it sure as hell caught on.

So, in my mind, unless you're actually facing elimination if you lose -- a game/series/whatever is not "must win".

I am begining to think that maybe Chicago just "Has thier number" as some teams do , like Tampa Bay and the Yankees.... The Yanks are much better, but every year TB gives them great difficulty...

Hopefully, Leyland can work some of his magic and get them past that.

I think the Tigers are a few years away from being where they want to be.
Ya know how it took the Pistons a few years to be able to beat the Bulls ....

The media is making a big deal out of the fact that the Tigers have only one 1 game against the Yankees and BoSox as well..... Of course thier not mentioning that they have only played 1 series each this year so thats a bit misleading, if it was the Tigers that was on the winning side of those 2 series, what would they be saying then ???

Gotta admit, the middle of the Chi Sox line up is very impressive....

I predicted a loss for Nate Robertson, and he made me look smart! He has problems with the likes of the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox. He is a decent pitcher at best when he plays the likes of Oakland, Minnesota, or Seattle. He just does not have the level head to beat the top rated teams. When we get Mike Maroth back, Nate will be the number 5 starter. I predict he could be a good trade bait for a left handed batter before July 31.

The next two games should be the Tiger's. Bonderman, and Rogers are Big League Starters, and will make the Tigers competitive against the Sox! :)

I'd like to see Verlander against them, and I am sure I will later in the year....

There is some talk that the Tigers might be looking at Soriano to add pop to the line up, I'm not sure if I 'd do that .....

I still can't believe he made the all star team as an outfielder, he's hardly one of the top 6 outfielders in either league.

As far as I'm conserned he's a liability in the field, but would be a good DH, but when Dimetri get's back I think he will DH, so we don't need a DH and Sorianto is a Righthander bat anyways......

Doesn't make sense to me, I cringe at the thought of him in the outfield for the Tigers.

Timm, all games are "must win", that's how championships are won. Seven and a half games back with sixty plus to go, is long climb uphill against a team playing .667 ball. Free Press and Leyland had it right, we're in first chasing the Sox.

Oh, okay, I thought maybe you actually knew what "must" meant. My bad.:p

Leyland did have it right though in today's Free Press:
"I said before, whether we swept three or got swept three, it's not gonna be the end of the world." Leyland said. "But you know, it's been a little dull around here the last few years, so I don't blame anyone for getting excited about it and making it a big series."

Mitch Albom in the same Freep article:
"But we need to remind sports fans around here that certain habits must be broken if we're going to go back to watching all this baseball. First habit: One game means nothing. No. We mean it this time."

I don't disagree with the main point of your post -- that if the Tigers woulda swept the Sox and gone up seven and a half games that would put the Sox in deep doo-doo. I just disagree with the "must-win" label. Applying it in situations like this pretty much just strips it of all meaning. What do you say in an actual must-win situation?

It was nice see Detroit playing on ESPNHD last night...first time I recall seeing them in HD in my neck of the woods. Oh, and nice win BTW...

I would have loved to see them in HD, except I am in the Fox Sport Detroit Market, and they were carrying the Tigers game last night, so ESPN was "Blacked out" for me. It would have marked the first time I have been able to see the Tigers in HD. I heard this Saturday's game will be on our local Fox station in HD, but I will be at an Air Show, so I will miss out on that one. :(

And man... if Bonderman, gave up one less home run last night, he would have looked like a stud. Instead, he just looked great! :D

Your probably at work, but the Tigers are on ESPN HD as I type this (1 pm game) and being delayed a few minutes for rain, but it has not been blacked out yet ....:) :) :)
Game has not started yet ....

Well... I called it! :neener

Tigers took two of three and lost the first game in the series, thanks to Robertson. :(

They about made me a wrong yesterday. Kenny Rogers needs to get his act together for the rest of the season.

It will be interesting to see what happens before the trade deadline. And Mike Maroth, can't come back fast enough.

Granteed Robertson did not have a good game, but the offense also did nothing...
1 run is not going to beat the Sox...either Sox...

Why would a team drop in the rankings

POKER? Why????
