Hey Everyone,

Been thinking of switching from Comcast to Direct TV. Just wanted to know how the installation goes for Direct TV.

I would be getting the free HD-DVR and paying $99 each for 2 HD Boxes. I would then have 3 standard recievers.

SO if I went about setting that up could someone please run through how installation goes? Such as how long does it take, do they need to run any wires into the house such as making holes in any walls or anything like that or can they just use the existing wiring? How is the signal reliability once you are all hooked up?

Also, since I would get rid of Comcast HS Internet how do I go about getting Verizon DSL or some other internet through Direct TV? My sister has her Verizon and Direct TV on one bill. Should I mention that when ordering Direct TV and they set it up?

Thanks for the help. I will post more questions if they come up.

I hate to say this but the answer to all of your questions is that it depends on your situation. All installations are different. We don't know what type of cables are already run and if they are all run form a central location or just have splitters all over the house.

Now I can say that if the installation is done right the signal is very reliable. I very seldom lose signal and if I do it is normally only for a minute or two during the hardest rain you can think of.

Thanks for the response. The house was built and had all the cable run then so we don't have any splitters in the house. Currently we just have the line from the pole and on the outside of our house we have the main splitter put there by the cable company. From there all the cables run straight to their respective outlet.

It sounds like the installation should be pretty smooth then. Just make sure you let the installer know that you have a central point prior to him installing anything.

Just thought of a new question.

Could I purchase the 2 HD boxes from My Best Buy and just have the installer set them up?

It would be alot easier since I have a BB credit card with no interest right now.

Would it cost more or will the installer be cool with setting them up since I already bought them?
