Thinking about switching - Can I record HD on DN DVR?

Sorry, I'm not really sure about the accronyms you use here.

I currently have a guy coming Friday to install a Dir TV DVR/Tivo plus an additional HD recieiver plus moving my old SD Tivo to another room. All total it's costing me about $700 after rebates for everything. I know I may be able to get it a little less possibly, but I don't think I can find it as low as what it would be to just switch to Dish Net.

My *main* concern is the ability to record the OTA HD channels on the DVR. I know with Dir TV you can do this easily, but from what they told me at Dish, you can't (but I've had a hard time getting someone who sounds like they know what's going on at Dish after waiting forever on hold)

Also, the programming would be a little more at Dish - I'd need the top 180 because my son (6) would be crushed to lose DIY channel.

Then there is the whole upgrade issue - part of me thinks I should just cancel everything, just get a simple OTA recieiver for DH's HD LCD, and wait to see what comes down the pike. I know our local HD's are next to come out (Milwaukee, WI) so maybe I should just wait....

Sorry, I'm just so confused! Someone tell me what to do!! (LOL!) :D

Yes, you can record HD OTA with E* receivers. If you choose to move to DISH, you might wait until after 2/1 & get the VIP622 DVR, which has 2 sat tuners and a digital OTA tuner. It supports 2 TVs with the one box. TV1 can be an HDTV.

You'd probably want the DishHD Gold package- the Top 180 plus the HD channels. You can get that with or without locals. Since you seem to have an OTA setup, save the bucks and get the "without" version.

Frankly, the only reason I see for going with D* is the NFL Sunday Ticket, now that Tivo is being phased out. But if you already have an investment in D*, it might be cheaper to stay with them.

Dish OTA Recording

Yes, 942 records OTA, although I believe if I didn't subscribe to Locals, they wouldn't show up on the guide - in which case you'd have to set manual timers.
I have a Humax HFA100 ($200) at another location. I've found it to be an excellent OTA HD receiver (has 8 day guide)

Lease Upgrade Requires SD Subscription (Bronze, Silver, etc)??

My dish plans
