Wasn't sure if this should go in the "Email Dish" thread or start a new one. Feel free to move it and retitle it if you think it would be better somewhere else.
Anyway, like many, I emailed "ceodish", received a call this morning and wanted to relay things while they were still fresh.
Basically Jessica went through all the placating yada, yada, about my being a long time, loyal customer, etc and that Dish wanted to do everything possible to satisfy customers like me. She was very nice and seemed fairly knowledgable about the new deals and MPEG4 equipment. She didn't even disagree when I told her that we knew that MPEG4 was really MPEG2 in discuise. The only area she wasn't really up to speed on(and she admitted it) was concerning the miss-statment Charlie made about HD DNS not being allowed by law until June.
Anyway, what I came away with is:
1. She could not take an order to upgrade my 942 to a 622 today but when they can, I could order it and still be eligable for the $200 rebate but would probably not see that rebate until April.
2. One reason they're restricting the new HD channels to only the new MPEG4 receivers and pushing the 622 deal more toward new customers first is so (and I'm paraphrasing here) any potental bugs with the 622 will have time to surface and be addresed before the unit gets to their existing customer base. I kid you not. She said something about they didn't want their existing subs to have to experience any problems with the new receiver.
I said: "so you're basically going to use new customers as beta testers for the 622" with a LOL. She replied (also with a LOL): "well I'm not going to say that". I gotta give her credit, once she realized I knew a little more than the average sub (not that I know a hell of a lot), she didn't try to bs me too bad at all.
3. Regarding HD DNS and if the NY / LA HD locals be also used for that purpose, as I said, she wasn't real up on that but did say Dish was really hoping to have HD Locals for those 50 dmas they listed by March 1st. She also said it couldn't be guarenteed because there were still contracts being worked out, etc.
I then (you know me) got on a tretis about all us rural area customers with no digital OTA options, etc. She listened very well and gave me the impression she was taking it all in. We talked about SHVERA and the recent FCC report (which I don't think Dish is aware of) etc., and she seemed interrested. I got the impression she agreed that Dish may be miss-interperting the law. Anyway, not sure what, if anything, will come of that.
I'm sorry to say, I got so obsorbed in everything else, I plumb forgot to ask her about the HD vs HD Lite issue. I can't believe I did that but I did and I'm sorry. You all can give me sh*t about it if you want. I probably deserve it.
